Question on notice for you Spiritof82 ... which player has had the most number of different jumper numbers in senior games for the WB/Footscray since 1925? It would make a great trivia night question!
So far I reckon Frank Aked and Allan Hopkins would have to be up there. Would almost certainly be someone pre-1970s.
Thanks So82. Top work. I reckon Ambrose Palmer had a few too, just from reading this thread.Dogwatch, as requested, Allan Hopkins played in 5 different numbers (details on the previous page) but the winner is Frank Aked with 6 different numbers for us, and 7 if you count his year at Hawthorn with another new number.
Frank "Dolly" Aked
#33 1925
#11 1926
#21 1927
#22 1928
#23 1929
#8 1930-32
Hawthorn
#7 1933

BTW, you're rattling through the numbers altogether too fast. What are you going to do for the rest of the off season?

If Morris plays 17 games next season he will have played exactly 50% of all games played in the number 38 since we entered the VFL (1925).Number 38 - Will be hard for another player to get the games record in this one.

Mind you, #38 hadn't taken the field in any VFL/AFL game for us until 1939 (1 game only) and then no more for another 17 years (1956).
That's who I was talking aboutThere are also another a little further down the list that would go onto great things, Daniel Cross.

Polly Purser was a rippa and one of the reasons the dogs improved so much in 1983. Always thought Bluey Hampshire was a fine ruckman and was a little underated. He played in some pretty ordinary Dogs sides in the late 70's, early 80's and rarely lowered his colours. He took over coaching from Royce Hart and nearly got the dogs into the finals in 1983, after a few shocking seasons. Wonder what big Bluey is doing now and how he felt about the dogs flag?Interesting that we have had very few - if any - out and out stars to have worn #1. Quite a few average to handy players in that lot. And a couple of shockers.
Herb Henderson was probably the best of them but he only played 1 game in that jumper - strange.
Purser probably the next best and was a very good player for us. Allan Hopkins was terrific according to all reports but surely he played more than 56 games for us? Must have changed his number somewhere along the line.
