Games you could never beat?

Reading back through this old thread is making me massively miss Super Nintendo and Sega.

Man those were the days.

Jurassic Park on Sega was incredibly hard.
I remember not being able to beat Aladdin either.

Pretty lolworthy, but to this day I've never been able to beat Michael Jackson's Moonwalker on the Mega Drive/Genesis. Furthest I've gotten is the 2nd level of the Woods (3rd World). Most recently I started playing it again on the Wii, and once again that's as far as I got.

For more recent games, I've never completed any GTA game up to IV except for Liberty City Stories on PSP, those two (LCS and IV) have been the only ones where I have actually sat down and put a fair amount of hours into them.

+1 for Dr. Robotnik's mean bean machine

Can't even beat the 2nd or 3rd guy ****ing bullshit

Faery Tale Adventure on the Amiga. Just too long. The size of the map was simply ludicrous.

You should be able to blow through GTA3, VC and SA if you can beat GTA LCS with one stick. I loved the psp games but the two 3d games were a bitch when it came to the controls.

Ah the old Battletoads level. I don't think anyone ever finished that game, in the world. If you got past the Level 3 one, there was another one later that was even harder.

Gah i beat the speedbikes, felt top of the world, the game lulls then you get to the snakes :(
Check where without warning it speeds up just after the 2:07 mark. Imagine that as a kid? That game punished.

Ninja Gaiden and TMNT had moments that punished too, and im also including Castlevania for its oh so cheap deaths.

Most common thing i heard from my brother as a kid was "oh f**k you contra." I know theres the konami code, but back in the old "pre internet days" when we didnt have a way to find cheats you played contra with 3 lives.

F**k it.

Funny enough gamers and the battletoad shared the same facial expression when hitting that.

Can't go back though, sold all 3 :( still got Vice City Stories to finish though.

Has anyone here played "Last Hope" on dreamcast? Although I'm often drunk when I play (I always seem to have an urge to play Dreamcast after a night out. Don't ask why - I couldn't tell you), it has got to be one of the most absurdly hard R-Type clones I have ever played, and shmups are notoriously hard as it is.

Original Donkey Kong remake on Game Boy. Last played it in 2001, was stuck at a level on world 3 (it had the original 4 levels plus about 8 other worlds). Back in the days when I never had the internet, I tried for four years to pass the level, but could never figure out how to get to the end. Then I lost the game, and the mystery will remain eternal.

Diddy Kong Racing was a bitch. It may have looked harmless, but some parts of it were insanely difficult. Haven't clocked it yet.

that game was awesome! but so hard. my dad made it to the space area once, i was so amazed at it i had no idea how he did it, but yeah for an 8-10 year old playing it was hard!

I'm not sure whether everyone here was playing the same Diddy Kong Racing. I remember spending a good amount of time at the Wizpig races, but the rest of the game was fairly tame. I can't remember whether there was a hard mode, but I remember beating the game umpteen times.

I also beat the clock ghost (T.T) on time trial on every track :D

I did eventually beat it after six months, but Zelda: Ocarina of Time's Water Temple deserves a mention. A bastard of a place that was.

Excellent nostalgia trip this topic :thumbsu:

N64 days were the best.

Gaming will never be the same again for me :(

Yes! that's one game I forgot about, and that's the furthest I've reached, however I last played it about 7 years ago, even though it's easily accessible to start playing again.

Yeh Zelda is definently one of those games that was incredibly tough to beat. D/L'ed the 64 for the PC and gave it another crack a while back and struggled.

Probally what makes the game so awesome.

oh man the hoverbike level on Battletoads was the bane of my existance as a kid, I swear more than once my mum walked into my bedroom to find me in the corner in the foetal position just repeating left, left, right, left, under, over, over :p:p

Maniac Mansion on the NES, probably my first 'RPG' type game, tried playing an emulated version a year ago and got roughly as far as I did when I was 7! Pretty funny game too

OMG, Dr. Robotnik's mean bean machine. My god that game was insanely hard (same premise as columns).

This game, has to be the biggest pain in the arse ever. Was playing it 3 days ago on the Sega Collection, got upto Robotnik.. you don't even have time to think when going against him. It took me about 40 tries before I just threw beans everywhere and somehow beat him.

I have another old NES game!!!

Double Dragon 2 or 3? I forget.

When you played, you made new friends. And you got to use them as well.

The first friend you made was a chubby little man.

That little fat man in a business suit? Quite possibly the most useless character in video gaming history! All he could do was that stupid belly flop attack, and he was slow as hell.

Friday 13th and Nightmare on Elm street have never been finished by me.

Battletoads.. the less said about that ****ing hoverbike stage the better. :(
