The aim of Operation Alliance is to shut them down with disrupt and dismantle techniques.
There has been significant increases in home invasions, car jackings and organised violence in recent years. Traditional policing was local based focusing on specific postcodes however with the advent of social media gangs are networking across postcodes, the way they operated has changed and they are far more mobile. Victoria Police has rejigged with Operation Alliance and an integrated approach coordinating 21 divisions across Victoria .
With the average age of gang members being between 15 and 25 years old, focus is on diversion from crime programs and reintegration for minors and first time offenders.
88 search warrants have been executed. 720 charges have been laid including armed robbery, motor vehicle theft, possess firearms and drug dealing etc I assume aggravated burgs are in there somewhere. Police have seized a variety or weapons, including 19 guns, knuckles and swords, issuing 24 firearms protection orders and impounding dozens of vehicles.
Victoria Police admits the covid 19 lockdowns have been helpful in identification and tracking movement.
