I'm a Carlton supporter, but have always been a fan of Michael Gardiner. I'm sure you have had pleanty of threads on him in recent times (so sorry about this), but could someone please fill me in about where he is and where he is at. If you could get him fit and firing like his early days, there is no doubt that i recon the premiership would be all yours. You could POSSIBLE have the no.1 and 2 ruckmen in the AFL.

An update from someone please....

He's been playing with Claremont in the WAFL but has been hampered by injury and suspension. He's played a couple of games in a row, so I think the Eagles want him to string a few games together until he is considered for selection.

Word on the street is that he'll definitely be recalled after the break. Whether that's immediately (against the Bulldogs) or a few games later, only time will tell. There's no doubt that Seaby is struggling with form and injury, while Cox is playing injured and needs more rest time.

Gardiner will play in the WAFL for Claremont this week and barring injury will line up for his first game for the Eagles against the Western Bulldogs Sunday fortnight.....this has been the opinion of the coaching staff as past incidents have seemingly been forgiven :)

He has steadily been getting some form, has played in the ruck so he is just about fully fit, I expect him to take Seaby's spot and probably have a forward role, giving some relief to Cox in the ruck which I believe will make us make stronger.

I think playing him in the ruck is where he is would be most valuable. He had some fantastic years in the ruck. Seems to struggle a tad in the forward line. However i doubt whether we will ever see Gardiner play a full game in the ruck again. Dont think he has put a full year together for about 3-4 years now.

I recon he is a certainty to be traded at years end. You would think due to his last few years he wouldnt be worth much anymore. What do you think a best case senario would be for him? 3rd round draft pick? Kent Kingley maybe

from what I understand Gardiner is now fully injury free (for the first time since about R16 03) and from what I have seen at training and the amount of work that he is doing around the ground in the wafl he is back to freakish level of athleticism that he had in his AA year and the reason he was a #1 draft pick

will be very interesting seeing what happens when he comes back into the team and plays a few games in the Ruck

After last years GF and the shambles that was our pre-season, I never thought that I would be eagerly anticipating Gardiners return!

I must agree. 3 weeks ago i couldn't have cared less if he was a chance to play but now i'm really hoping he gets back in the team. I think alot of opposition coaches would prefer if he doesn't make it back. Lets hope he doesn't let us down.

We shopped Gardiner around, allegedly, in the off-season and got a measly 3rd round offer from Collingwood, which we kindly said "no thank you".

We got a 3rd rounder, when Gardiner was at his lowest value ever.

If he is 75% of the player he used to be.... well he'd be worth a fair bit to the right team. I'd say a late 1st rounder, at worst.

But here's the conundrum, if he's value is worth a 1st rounder, it means he's back in a big way, which in turn means he's too valuable to trade.

trade him asap
if he gets back to 75% of the player he was and u can get a first rounder for him in this draft, TRADE HIM. altho he'll still be good, uve got the number 1 ruckmen in the league and u can top up ur list with youth which will extend ur premiership window further and mayb even prevent wc from entering into a cyclical downturn like some teams have hit ie essendon. ur doing well without gardiner so why wait till his value goes down further (assuming he does get back to 75%).

West Coast's drafting has been very good in recent years, with the eagles grabbing Waters, Butler, Rosa and Hurn with relatively low picks, while utilising the rookie list to bring up kids like Priddis, Graham and Armstrong.

However, I agree that if we can get a top 10 draft pick for Gardiner at years end, we should consider it. Despite bringing in so many great youngsters, we will struggle to find a really good KPP with picks outside the top 10.

Michale Gardiner reminds me of Mark philippoussis... Tallent to burn.... and always looks like they are working hard... but just never seems to get there consistently

Who is likely to go out for him to get a game ? Seaby (whose form has been down) or even Cox (who seems to be playing with injury) or someone else ?

More than likely it will be Seaby

Seaby for sure.

He just seems to be treading water in terms of his career progress but Im sure if he continues the form from his last WAFL game he will be back bigger than ever.

I don't think they should upset the team dynamics just to give Gardiner a game.
Seaby played better than him in the WAFL last week, therefore Seaby should come into the team. Gardiner is a luxury we can use when and if we need him, but not this week.

I rather give Gardy a run now and know 100% at the business end of the season who should be our #2 ruckman (Gardy or Seaby), than gamble on Gardiner in rd 21-22 if it becomes obvious Seaby is not up to the task.

This whole Gardy beat up isn't about the #2 ruck spot, Seaby's got that all the way, it's about Gardys trade value.
