It was a joke when Priddis won it. Like a literal joke - like you were expecting someone to say "aw, just kidding" and run the real Brownlow count. It was a joke when Judd won it despite splitting Pav face open and chicken whinging everyone
I mean, for much of the period he was at the Suns, many of the champs of the 07-11 were on their way out or retiring. For many years it was Selwood with a few cameos from others carrying us, particularly in the midfield. If he was looking to dispel such a tag that he was carried to greatness, he could have done that in a new-generation Geelong side. Had he remained he would have had a younger Geelong side to work with as well, as we are aware that keeping him would have meant discarding a number of good players on our list (potentially costing the 2011 flag).Haters would have found a way to knock him for riding the coattails of other champions.

The award consistently proves itself to be a poor reflection of true best-in-season performances, and while I think it's important not to have uniformity across accolades and it's good to have different perspectives on the game and player performances exhibited, other accolades so often prove to be more in tune with reality.
Fyfe and Martin are all time greats. GAJ is in a league above themI agree with this, but ultimately the Brownlow is the award that carries by far the most prestige and therefore has by far the biggest impact on player legacy. If GAJ had rightly won the 4 or 5 Brownlow's he deserved to win, then there wouldn't even be a conversation as to whether he was the greatest midfielder of all time. It would just be a fact agreed upon by unanimous consensus, such is the elevated position upon which Brownlow wins are held. Instead, after GAJ retires we're going to have these BS revisionist narratives in which he's put in the same group as players like Martin and Fyfe, who he's unquestionably better than but will be grouped with regardless due to GAJ being robbed of the two or three extra Brownlow's that *should* separate him from those players from a legacy standpoint.
Truly sorry to hear that. I hope yous are doing ok.Horrible to hear Gaz and Jordan are going through this. I've got to say I'm surprised he is still going to the hub, I have a son 1 month younger than Levi who also has a rare condition, done the whole rock bottom diagnosis thing in a PICU ward, that was 8 months ago and there is still no way today I would leave my son and wife for 5 weeks away. He's a huge family man, he doesn't owe it to anyone to play and I just hope he does what's best for him and the family. Actually I completely forgot Jordan and Levi might go with him
