Gary Ablett - could he win the Brownlow?

Lots wrote him off at the end of last year but he's been really good this year.

Currently playing the best footy of his career since 2014 prior to when Brent Macaffer tackled him which resulted in a very nasty shoulder injury to Ablett.

Many people who love footy and love watching the champions play were cursing Macaffer as it was widely thought that Ablett would never recover from his injury given the severity.

However fast forward to 2019 and he has made a complete recovery as he no longer has to wear shoulder tape and can freely move his arms above his head, best example being on Easter Monday when he took that hangar very reminiscent of what Senior used to on a weekly basis.

After 7 rounds he'd be right up the top in the Brownlow voting and he is every chance to win what would be a well deserved 3rd Brownlow Medal for one of the greatest players to ever play our game.

He's playing great football but I don't think he's made a full recovery. That shoulder is still cactus and you can see it every single contested marking contest he's forced into. He actively avoids them.

Probably a bigger chance of spoiling Kelly or Dangerfield's chances, with an eyebrow raising (but never seriously threatening) 18 votes or so. Not that I'd be complaining if his form continues and his play throughout the season earns him that many.

Continued chance of a 3-4 week injury as well as being managed if Geelong's form continues and they get 2-3 games clear in the top two over the next couple of months.

That and the fact he's taking overhead marks again, Exhibit A being Easter Monday..

Its unlikely he will get enough midfield time this year to build up enough votes, also he has too many around him like Kelly and Danger who will pick up plenty of best afields.

He may just have to settle for the two (and his name in the fine print on the back of one of Juddy's Brownlows)

Very much doubt if any Geelong player will win the Brownlow as possibly they will all poll votes against each other - often happens with teams @ the top of the ladder. In saying that however there's still a long way to go so anything can happen before seasons end!

He could because he stands out with all those boos! Kelly would be ahead of him at this stage and given their ages I would favour Kelly from the cats. Cripps would be polling big numbers too. Stiff competition for the little master.

People said that in 2016 Dangerfield wouldn't win it because Selwood would take too many votes off him.

Ablett has really shone this year and has been in Geelong's top handful of players, he also knows how to rack up the votes.

Having said that Tim Kelly is paying $13 to win and $4 to place, crazy odds which should be shorter given he's been Geelong's best player this year.

Won't happen.

The constant targeting of his elbow by opposition headbutt attacks will see him miss at least a few rounds due to injury, which should see him miss out on votes.

It certainly didn't happen in 07 or 09.

I've never ever understand that train of thought and never will. If you're in the best 3 players on the ground you generally get votes irrespective of who's around you.
