What the hell is this?

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/wh...-want-to-live-in/story-e6frf7jo-1225845501207

Man might look like an ape, act like a goat, eat like a pig, think like a jackass, be as stubborn as a mule and as cunning as a fox, but a man is still a man and has been that way right down through recorded history. I openly confess to being no scientist, nor will I try to pretend to be one. However, it is not hard for the average person to understand some of the basic laws and principles within the scientific world. There is so much misinformation out there called "science", masquerading as "truth", and because we've been taught to believe these falsehoods it takes an abundance of information to get these misconceptions unseated. So please bear with me as I may need to get quite technical to get my message across.

Blokes like this should be out in the street with newspapers for hats, holding signs telling us to fear the apocalypse. For the Hun to give him a platform for this absurd, long-winded rant – where he links secular humanism to all manner of society's ills – smacks of indulgence.

The idea that Gary Ablett thinks he is in a position to argue with the likes of Richard Dawkins and Charles Darwin is ridiculous. Kirk Cameron is more credible. This is embarrassing. The Hun must have been so happy to get Ablett to write something that they didn't bother reading it before publishing it.

Now it is bad enough misleading us by telling us we descended from convicts but to tell us we descended from "apes" - come on!

I don't know whether to laugh, facepalm or what....

I couldn't even get through the whole thing.

It's interesting that he's demonising secular humanism but apparently not doing anything to curb his son's desire to compile enormous wealth and property interests. Materialism is surely one of the ills of the world he's talking about, but it's ok for his son. "Come up to GC son, make 1.5million a year. Support me in my crusade".

I doubt a lot of that was even written by Ablett. He never spoke like that at any stage during his public life. Was never very comfortable with words or communication.

I think he's missing being famous. He was a great footballer - pity he's a loon.

Disputes, or defies?

KevinCat07 is going to LOVE this thread.

Personally, I think that there may be some validity in questioning the accepted view of evolution.

Rather than assuming all those who walk among us are genetically human, you only have to look at the likes of Ablett and Anthony Rocca to realise that there are still genetic throwbacks to our earlier ancestors afoot in the modern world.

Homo Footius.

Does Ablett realise that even if the book he quotes did disprove evolution, that doesn't prove intelligent design?

He mentions a book by Michael Denton (misspelt in the article as Dentin), except I just looked it up and the only information I can find about the book are critiques that say that the man relied on antiquated sources, misquotes and an incorrect definition of evolution. And that the next book the guy wrote contradicts a lot of the one Ablett is citing.

How on earth does the Herald Sun justify publishing such crap?

Blame the HUN for printing it.

If that is Ablett's beliefs, then so be it. But it is not worthy of publication in mainstream media. Keep it for the bible bashers.

I can see this thread getting out of hand.

It's bizarre, isn't it?

But at the same time, the tangential structure, the long-windedness and the Bible quotes lead me to believe it couldn't have been ghost-written by a journalist.

Absolutely agree.

I am baffled by their decision to run it.

Why the hell would they think that Ablett's views on this matter are authoritative enough to be published?

He just comes across as a village idiot.

I couldn't be bothered reading it all, but if I recall the latest scientific beliefs correctly........Ablett is right, we didn't descend/evolve from apes, we share a common ancestor.

Oh No! Someone with different beliefs! Let's Belittle him because we are obviously superior to him! Har Har!

It was only what 500 years ago that creation was a fact and to suggest otherwise was stupid. A short amount of time, Maybe in 200 years aliens will show up, tell us that they had created the earth 70,000 years ago and tell us how stupid and blindsided we were to believe in evolution?

This Argument is just stupid, Incredibly stupid, and anyone who bickers or decides to try to argue is as ******ed as the whole debate and whoever is going to make snide comments at either side are just w***ers.

He can believe in whatever he wants to believe. It doesnt make him any less intelligent since the enviroment you grew up in has more to do with the evolution/creation argument then intelligence ever will.

Re: Gary Ablett disputes http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&pevolution

He sounds exactly like someone who's taken LSD and gone all spiritual.

Each paragraph is a whole new topic that doesn't connect with the previous one.

Bit of a faulty understanding of humanism there, Gary.

He just comes across as a village idiot.

I don't agree with you on that one.

He comes across as a man who has a belief in something, and is willing to express it.

I do not agree with it, but I will not judge him by it. Regardless, it should not be printed in a mainstream newspaper.

But, it's the HUN, so anything that makes a headline...

Edit: I said but too much LOLOLOLOLOL

So where does that kind of thinking leave us? Don't belittle belief in leprechauns? I'm surprised you didn’t say come out with the old, "It’s only a theory". The public controversy about evolution only survives in the minds those who don't understand what it says or the abundant evidence that supports it.

Gary Ablett Snr said:
Yet people like Richard Dawkins will try and tell us that we humans as well as the entire universe, which are immeasurably more complex than any passenger jet could ever be, all happened by chance.

Oh dear. He just doesn't get it does he.

I am more than happy for for Ablett Snr to have a different opinion than that of Darwin and Dawkins, but it just makes him look ignorant when he doesn't understand the theories that Darwin and Dawkins put forward.

I find it offensive that a bloke who gave enough smack to a young girl to kill her has the gall to moralise about the " a very serious decline in morals and values in our community." Fair dinkum, what would Alisha Horan's parents and friends think of this hypocritical garbage.

That font is tiring to read.
