My missus is a teacher at a primary school in Geelong. Yesterday Gary Ablett Jnr was there. He showed up because it was a kids birthday.

He hung out with the kids in their classroom, sang the club song with them, signed autographs and posed for photos. He even went to other classes as well.

The thing was he was there on his own no manager or anyone, just did it off his own bat. How good is that. The kids loved it apparently. He even gave my missus a kiss on the cheek because it was her birthday.

I just thought it was great to see Jnr doing this sort of thing of his own accord for a supposed media shy person its the things like this that make you respect him even more.

I know other players probably do this sort of thing as well. But this was not an appearance for a fee it was just him being a good bloke.

And the kids loved it.

Just thought i would share it as a feel good story. Lets hope maybe his brother one day can start doing this sort of thing as well.

Good on you Gazza.

Great Stuff. Generally all the players at the club are approachable, even Nathan. Pre-season, Nath signed my nephew's jumper, posed for a couple of photo's and had a little chat with him, however when the camera's are around, he appears to go to water.

Great effort from Gaz. Do you think he would come to my work and signg the them song with me when its my birthday later in the month?

Yeah why not, might even get a kiss on the cheek to.
My missus got an autograph for her friends 6 year old. He gave it to him last night the kid thought it was Christmas.

Your missus is a he? Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Heard quite a few stories about Gaz, he seems like a top bloke.

I'm not sure what you would have been more jealous of, Gaz stealing a kiss from your girl or your girl stealing a kiss from Gaz ;) bad luck you missed out.

I found a Womans Day at my mums house today and it had a bit of an article about young Jnr, interesting read.
It was a great read. I purchased it for that article. Felt like a really big man buying the womens day in the local news agent.

I must admit that when I read the headline, I thought he'd gotten rid of the Ablettizer but that's even better

Why bring up drugs? I didn't mention it.

Sounds a bit defensive.

I reckon GA Jr may well be as good as his old man, but his brother won't be much.

Has the pizza guy recovered from the beating yet?
That girl in the hotel didn't though, did she?
I hear they are still looking for cars that went missing in Drouin.

Is this a football webiste? How does any of the above relate to football knob?

Gary Ablett Snr should be only judged by his efforts on the football field and unless you have done better, shut your face. We all know you have not better, becase GAZ is the greatest football ever.

Being from frankston, you would know all about crime, so you might be capable of commenting....

It's typical of knobs like Dolphin that try to put a negative spin on any Ablett story. Go home to Frankston Station and continue to beg for money.

Hey w@ankerface,
Why did you have the urge to turn a Gary Ablett Jnr feel good story into a thread about his dad and things that happened int he past?? Move on, get over it. During his career, he was amazing. If you want to post about sportsmen and drugs, maybe the General Talk board may be a better spot to post, because we get to maul you there without wrecking a good thread

I'll try and type slowly so that you can understand.

I agree that young Gary Ablett is a very talented footballer, and from all accounts a very good kid.

I simply responded to a whinge by somebody about the "media" attacking the Abletts, which, in relation to the kids, is just a nonsense.

My quite reasonably responce was that this probably had something to do with the behaviour of the father.

Somebody else then jumped on me about bringing up drugs, which I never mentioned.

Since then there have been a multitude of rather precious and pathetic responses.

I say agin that young Ablett is a kid that many many young pople should look up to, as a role model and inspiration.

But just to make things clear - Gary Ablett SNR is not god!

No one ever said he was, another media term.
But are you aware of all the things he did for kids and the sick and elderly that not many even hear about.
He is a great man, we all make mistakes, move on , at least he is getting help to better himself.
This is the wrong place to speak ill of an Ablett.

Good story re: Gary Junior.

Not like a story I once heard about Wayne Carey - My Dad's mate was at a pub celebrating his old man's birthday one year when who should walk in but the King. The old man was apparently a huge Roos fan so his son approached Carey and said "Any chance you could come over and wish my Dad a happy birthday, it'd make his day." To which Carey responded - "Have you got 200 bucks? My time is worth money"
