Player Watch Gary Ablett Junior is the best player ever

If you were picking a team from scratch Carey is the player you would pick first to build the team around he was a freak
Then get Jacko to play on him the regret picking Carey - Buddy runs rings around duck and Jacko

To me both Abletts share the best player ever tag, senior was amazing to watch, and junior turned out to just as amazing, some of us are lucky enough to have seen them both play.

I hope his son plays and our grandchildren have a same conversation about him being as good as his dad.
I agree. 1 and 2 imo and Jnr comes nowhere near senior. Carey a close third.

His dad and Carey were the best I've seen... but he has a strong case for third place.

The other two were just monsters, I mean like... they were just two of the most unstoppable players I've seen.

Never saw Lockett or Dunstall at their peak ?

Lockett would kick 12 in a rubbish team and Dunstall would kick 10 with 3 or 4 assists.

Or Matthews who averaged almost 30 and 3 across his career.

22.28 and 2.76 to be exact. Still pretty good without the mayo. I'm too young to remember anything other than him crying after his last game.

Imagine if snr had stayed with Hawthorn and we’d have got jnr on father son, they’d probably have a dozen flags between them instead of 2.

Jeansy would have handled his 'toxicity'. He also would have figured out how to have Dunstall, Dermott and GAS in the one side.

Nah. They were so relieved when he moved on.

Didnt want to train. Didnt want to socialise.

He moved on to personal glory. We won a butt load of flags.

At least 21st century I think Buddy is better for the simple reason of Buddy is the number 1 key forward in the last 20 years by a considerable margin, it isn't even close. Ablett though, while the best midfielder isn't that far ahead of the second best midfielder in the last 20 years.

So if you had every player who has played in the 21st century I think majority would pick Buddy first and Ablett second.

Dunstall would kick 10 with 3 or 4 assists.

lol the biggest myth ever in football this bizarre notion Dunstall was this monstrous team player, something Ablett or Lockett never were.

Dunstall had the luxury of champion midfielders shoving it down his throat every week as Hawthorn rarely got smashed in the middle of the ground throughout most of his career.

Aye, I was spoiled watching the likes of Rob Harvey, Mikhail Voss, Peter Mahteara, Mark Rishoothoe, etc in their heydeys but Gold Coast's midfield is right up there with them in class, willed his teams to higher levels in his prime through being in the contest + having all the tricks in the book. Both his name and Nathaniel the Fyfe will be the ones I remember in 10 years, like the others before them.

Bairstow Couch Hocking would be rated considerably higher than Platten Condon Anderson... even though Platten is the best of the lot.

Tell me about how you watched all the Hawthorn games through the 80's and 90's
