Judd's peak > Ablett's peak

Peak Judd 2004-2007. Just check out how much they were hyping him.. To the freaking moon. They literally made an animation of him being turned into a statue. Doesn't get more epic than that.

Gary with the better career though. Blame that on Judd going to Carlton. Imagine if he had gone to Hawthorn.. He'd be the undisputed GOAT.

Yes, hype sure is a true measure of quality . . .

Ablett by a fair bit. Judd was amazing in his West Coast years, but Ablett, throughout his final years at Geelong and up until 2014 at GC was simply unbelievable. Ablett had the Brownlow just about sewn up halfway through 2014 before Brent McCaffer denied him becoming the GOAT.

Both went to struggling teams chasing the money so it was difficult to judge as the last parts of their careers was all about return on marketing revenue.

Ablett by a fair margin.
I thought it was virtually dead even way back in 2010 but what Ablett has since gone on to do for Gold Coast is what now separates him from Judd.

32 disposals, 8 clearances, 1½ goals per game in one season is extraordinary.
To put that into perspective . . . Gold Coast were sitting 8th after round 16.
Ablett gets injured and misses the remainder of the season.
Gold Coast win one more game and finish 12th.

Both better than the other at different points in their career. Judd Ablett, Judd Ablett, Ablett Ablett. Overall it's Ablett for me. Judd was consistent, but Ablett's level of consistent brilliance was something else. If it was a player at their best though - and although Ablett at full flight was freaking amazing - it would Judd at WCE. Never seen anything quite like it. Like Kouta in 2000, just a unique influence on the game.

They had other injuries besides Ablett that caused the complete drop off in form. In fact they've had injury problems for a while now, particularly to Swallow, Martin and O'Meara, and other issues with the likes of Bennell, Dixon.

They had injuries all throughout that season and were still in finals contention nearing the end of the year.
It's similar to Dangerfield at the moment, take him out of Geelong and they are at North Melbourne's level just battling to make the finals.

LOL no.

West Coast: 7th, Runners-Up, Premiership, 3rd, Judd leaves, 15th, 11th, 16th
Geelong: Premiership, Runners Up, Premiership, 2nd, Ablett leaves, Premiership, 6th, 2nd, 3rd

Not a fan of West Coast and Carlton at all but would take Judd every day of the week. He was carried at Geelong by Scarlett, Ottens, Mooney, Bartel, Corey, Kelly, Selwood etc but all the attention was heaped onto Ablett because he could do all the flashy things and rack up the stats, which hasn't exactly worked well at the suns (18th, 17th, 14th, 12th, 16th, 15th).

Geelong would've won the flags in 07 and 09 without him easily, as they showed in 2011. Without Judd the eagles would have struggled to make the finals, let alone make two grand finals and win one. He even made Carlton half-decent!
