Picking up the Herald sun today i have noted that Gary Senior was at the football club again today observing training.

He was also at the intraclub match last friday ( i know this because i saw him there), infact he was in the players dressing rooms and it appeared that he was discussing football with varying players.

It looms the question. Do you think Gary Senior is having some form of coaching role or mentoring role at the club?

Even if he is not, his presence at the club is sensational and will lift the team.

It really is great to see the great man back at the club.

Lets hope both of his sons can achieve something he never did. What a story that would be.

Gary Ablett Sr steps out
16feb06

HE'S back. The buzz about now, with footy two weeks away, is enormous and it was even more so at Geelong training yesterday when the most famous Ablett, Gary Sr, dropped in to watch training. And he would have liked what he saw.

Gary Jr and Nathan Ablett impressed in a sharp session, with Nathan, in particular, showing signs of a more muscular torso.

Thats all he needs to to, just be there, but if he wants to hand out some advise all the better.

I'm exited just thinking about him being back around the club, imagine if you are a player.

Its great that he is back around the club, but I doubt that he would take on an official role. He is more likely just supporting his two lads. With Nath expected to play more games for the seniors this year I am sure we will see big garry around a bit more.

However according to the Herald Sun today Big Barry Stoneham is our talls/ruck coach and "runner" I agree that he will be valuable to our talls "H" comes to mind especially. I think "H" could have a very good year. Though I haven't seen Stoneham run very fast.....

I am used to seeing blood nut Ling running in slow motion but I think blood nut Stoneham might be on pause.

sorry if any body takes offence to the term blood nut but I love them at geelong. - with the like of scratcher, bruns and bluey mcgrath it seems that geelong always have a blood nut.

cheers guys (yes I am sorta new but have posted before) but always read big footy b4 games

Whilst it is great to have Gazza Snr back at the club (it certainly makes a difference, there was a definite buzz when he came for the West Coast game), the sceptic in me suggests it may be a management ploy to create some more publicity before his gear goes under the hammer.

Here's hoping it is not, because it would be great to have him more actively contributing to today's team. It must be amazing for these kids, as many would have grown up idolising the great number 5.

Its great for a club to have any of its great past players back at the club. It fosters that whole club tradition/culture thing that somewhat went missing at Geelong. Bomber said he wanted to have a culture more like Essendon when he came and nobody can deny that they up to that stage were BRILLIANT at doing it. The club is improving EVERY aspect of what it is doing right now be it financial, cultural, on-field its GREAT to see. We have the best overall administration BAR NONE!

True, but one aspect of tradition that Geelong has always fostered is father/son players. Although we've got a lot at present (Scarlett, Blake, Callan and the 2 Abletts), in the past there have been other notable father/son selections. Mick Turner and Mark Yeates come to mind. With T.Hawkins apparently a certainty to be drafted in November there'll be another one. It's great to have.

With a lot of past players you'd definately think that, but with Gaz, he just doesn't go somewhere because someone wants him to. Geelong found it hard enough to get him to training (and even playing sometimes) when he was playing, let alone get him to rock up to a preseason training session to add value to his memorabilia. I could be wrong, but in general Garry does what Garry wants to do. I'd imagine he's there to support Nathan. Garry Jnr can take care of himself, but Nathan still needs some nurturing.
