Gary Ablett signed?

God still lives in Geelong. A guy i have done work for recently is friends with the abletts and i gave him all my ablett memorabilia to get signed just last week.......

Cook's always said they're only really opening up negotiations @ the mid-year break. That said, he was on SEN the other week and he did completely quash Mike Sheahan's rumour about Gaz being "closer to signing".
And I don't see why he suddenly has this huge urge to live near his dad or bro.

If Gary leaves Geelong it will ruin his entire legacy. I can't see him going for that reason.

I highly doubt Gary would head to the Gold Coast. Why would he? He's in a successful team right now that might actually win the premiership again this year, and maybe one or two more after 2010, so again I cant see it happening UNLESS he wants to play alongside his brother once more.

Judd's legacy hasn't been ruined though, he will just go down as Former West Coast and Carlton Great.

Yeah I know what you mean:thumbsu:. But Chris Judd doesn't have the football 'pedigree' and reputation to ruin that Gary has. And I think there's a difference between going to an historical, traditional team like Carlton compared to going to the Gold Coast. I just think that a factor in Gary's decision to hopefully stay with the Cats will be because of his name being forever linked to Geelong.

I keep hearing he will want to play with his brother, but is Nathan Ablett going to play AFL footy when he isnt in a side full of stars getting him the ball like his time at Geelong? Based on his time at Broadbeach and even this year, if his surname wasnt what it is, would he even be on the list? I think not. If Gary Ablett moved here for that reason he would probably be diassapointed after a few games when Nath is running around with Karmichael in the two's!

Gary Ablett hasn't igned anything, why make a thread saying you've just heard he has ????? He is staying at the cats, he bleeds blue and white !

Yeah but there is a difference, Judd wasn't WA born, he is a melbourne boy, whereas Ablett is from Geelong, he's dad is arguably the best player ever, he is a legend at the cats. If Ablett went to the Gold Coast it would look bad. "Ablett leaves Premiers Geelong for money", now i know money can rule everything, but if i was him, i wouldn't want to leave the cats while they have the side they do, Gold Coast will be full of players who get rejected from other clubs.

Exactly.
The longer this Ablett situation drags on, the more I believe he'll be playing on the Gold Coast in 2011. You only have to look at THE FACTS

* Father lives on the Gold Coast
* Nathan playing there this year
* Split from long term girlfriend Lauren

You'd also have to wonder what more he can achieve at Geelong.

He can achive a lot more mate, he can win another brownlow with Geelong, he can win another premiership, he can become a legend at the club, there is no reason for him to leave, he would be stupid too.

Can he become the Greatest Ever Player. Think about it say he goes to Gold Coast and in 6-7 years time they are Grand Final material. He leads them to the promised land. AFL want footy to succeed in Gold Coast so will be throwing all they can there way.

Re-read the first paragraph:

GARY Ablett is believed to have cooled on what has been seen as an irresistible offer from the AFL's new Gold Coast franchise.

Doesn't mean he's staying.

I personally think Gary Ablett will leave, mainly because of the money, his brother and the fact that Bomber said 'enjoy this year with Gaz'.

I can think of 1.5 million reasons to leave,Chris Judd did it and no bags Juddy.I think it would just suit little Gary up there out of the spotlight.

yes that is a fair point. I remeber the afl taking our players away to give to Sydney. And why do they still have a higher salary cap? Cost of living is not higher there and the anonimity is worth money further still.

Anyway, Ablett will not have signed anything yet.

Last week, Alastair Lynch wrote an article for Courier Mail with headline 'Gary Ablett heading to GC'. (words to that effect)

On the Couch, Lynchy was replacing globetrotting Hirdy, and walked into the ambush that Lynchy had set for himself, albeit from the eyrie of the Gabba's confines.

Healy's first order of business - "Now Lynchy, is that headline true? Do you have information that the rest of us don't have privvy to, given that you are a player manager?"

Alastair proceeded to pedal, sideways and backwards!
Mike Sheahan reminded him that he had put his name to the article.

Sensing Lynchy's unease, and his furtive 'did I do my shoelaces' look, Healy and Sheahan decided to move on, having got their NO ANSWER - ANSWER.

So, Heals and Sheahan brought up one of Lynchy's commentating gaffes on the weekend game. No doubt, at this point, Alastair is weighing up the message of his media mentors;

1) Pull your head in, young fella
2) Decide what you want to be - a commentator, manager or sports writer
3) Don't ever confuse the three again
4) Don't allow one to cloud your judgement in the other
5) Its our job to poke the kettle, not yours.

Are we any wiser re GAblett? In the land of the player managers 'speaking between the lines', I'd say that the NO ANSWER- ANSWER is as good an indication we'll get, till God's son does a press conference. ;)

I think anyone close to club sources would have heard Ablett has signed.
I've had it from 3 pretty senior people at the club.
The question is "what does that mean?"
if you've ever signed a business contract you know the deal isnt done until the money and contracts are exchanged.
GAJr has done the right thing and left all his options open.
My opinion is he could unbalance the team psychologically, but if we got Bock as well with more tough fibre like Hunt there's a good chance of looking like finals next year.
As far as loyalty is concerned, it's 2010.
Ask Tyson Edwards what he thinks about being a single club servant.

Interesting to hear Brian Cook on the 5th Quater tonight concede that GC made an offer to Gary last year and Geelong made an offer I think he said in October (first and final) and that Ablett has not responded to that and in fact Cook admitted hes a little confused.

It looks likely that Ablett is coming here, especially if Geelong win this years Premiership, as that window will close from here on in quicker than most realise particuarly looking at the age of Milburn, Mooney, and a lot of their stars being around 28+29

You really think so? 8 wins would be an achievement at this stage.
