First match ever? Jeez Shell, you know how to pick them, I'll give you that. Hope you didn't expect Ablett to do that every week after that!
Hahahaha, yeah I know. My ma is Geelong, my dad Essendon, so they took me to that game together. I almost didnt go, I remember my mum saying "If you're bored, you cant just leave, we're staying till the end" BORED?!?! It was the best day ever. :)

And no, I didnt expect him to do it every week after that. I did know it was the club I definitely wanted to follow. (even tho we lost, lol)

Ah, well forgive me for saying so, but one side of your family has good taste. :)

I was lucky enough to see the great man kick 14 again the year after in Sydney, and what made it particularly fun was he kicked 11 up our end. We spent the last quarter taking marks over little tackers when he kicked goals. Very enjoyable!

I was at the game against Essendon in 95

kicked 4 in three quarters pretty much on fletcher, then 4 in the last on hird, won the game by himself. I thought that was great coz the dons had a pretty reasonable team back then.

Also remember after the game listenin to 3aw and they were interviewing Sheedy. Think he said something like that when Ablett retires all the coaches are gonna get together an have a cpl beers and a barbie. lol wonder if that ever happened? lol

wonder if they will do the same for jnr......... lol

It was 87 night series - pretty sure he kicked 7. The Ablett bootleg video shows just about all of them. He seemed to be able to roost the yellow sherrin further, for some reason.

Was there with my Dad that night and not only did he bag 7 but he also sat Peter Dean on his arse with a backhander (right in front of me) after copping a bit of niggle.

And that 3rd quarter he kicked 6.6! I was having visions of 100 goal seasons after that night I tell you. He made some very good defenders (Dean, Tommy Alvin) look like duds.

That was one of my favorite games that I've been to. At the corresponding game the previous year the roles had been reversed. We did well in the first half, only to be overrun by Essendon in the second, with James Hird kicking 3 and giving off at least another 6 in the second half.

The greatest thing about that day, and it wasn't just that we got up when all looked lost and Gazza played one of his specials, was that I was there with the most obnoxious Essendon supporter you will ever meet. Our reserves got thrashed by 20 goals prior to the big game, and my mate spent the whole half hour in between games telling me how our seniors would get the same treatment. When Essendon jumped out to a 5-6 goal break during the first half he got even worse.

As soon as we, and Gazza, opened the taps and took the game away from them, I did not require any invitation to let my mate know alllllllll about it. Not only that, but we were driving back to Moe at the time, so he got to hear about it for 2 hours on the drive home too :D

Please don't forget. Regular season 1995. Versus Essendon Geelong had been pretty well down all day. Ablett kicks 4 (atleast two were miraculous for memory) in last quarter and Cats get up. One of my favorite ever games.
Is that the game where he slotted the winner from an impossible angle near the point post and celebrated while sitting on the ground. That was a cracker of a game. I Was lucky enough to be at that one as well.

Pretty sure it was Hird by then, he kicked 4 on him in the last quarter.

Either way, it was a beautiful day's entertainment.
Shell was right, Dustin Fletcher tried to jump over Billy who was attempting to shepherd Fletcher. It was some quick thinking and I don't think he was that far from getting near it too.

That game is one of my favourites. About 75,000 there that day and I can still hear the noise of the Cat fans as we ran over the top of them in the second half with goal after goal. It was deafening.
