I read this Biography. Brilliant . Can't remember the Author but a really good book about a unbeleivable player and character of Australian Rules Football. His Autobiography had a lot to answer for but this author really went into detail of his life on and off the ground. I advise that any Ablett fans read it. Has anyone got any stories about the great man. One from the book was that he asked his U10's coach to pay him to play for his team.

Another story was when he was playing for Hawthorn i think in his first year, before he was a star anyway, he worked out the back of a service station for a bit of money and the owner one day found all these boxes with his signiture on them. He knew he was going to be good so he was practicing his signiture for his future fans. :)

he mustve been pretty arrogant

Not arrogant at all, never missed a chance to sign my jumper, book, photo's. Also heard him give surmons as part of a church gathering later in his career. Always signed autographs afterwards and chatted with everyone.

is the book... "Playing God, the rise and fall of Gary Ablett" by Garry Linnell.

Cos i am reading that at the moment, half way thru, and its got plenty of stories like those mentioned, a great read!

Agree.

Really enjoyed some of the stories, even if they broke my heart just thinking about the Great Man.

It’s a sensational book; currently I am half way through. I have wanted to finish it off recently, but haven’t had any time to do so. Nevertheless, anyone who is interested in the enigmatic personality of Ablett should really go out and read this book.

With the occasion of my birthday being on Monday, I wouldn't mind getting a copy of this book.

Hope some of my in-laws are lurking and wondering about late gift ideas. :)

Is this an official autobiography, or yet another unofficial autobiography on the great man?

Now that would be interesting, "I refuse to co-operate in any way with this book which I am writing about myself"

Or something like when (phatandphreaky will get a kick out of this reference) former NBA star Charles Barkley claimed that he was misquoted in his own autobiography some years back.

Now that takes brains. :p

its an biography by the guy that was mentioned before. "the rise and fall of Gary Ablett.

I chose not to buy the book out of respect for the great man. However i did borrow it from a friend and it is a great read, only took me about 5 days to read.
One part that caught my eye was when Linnel outlined to Ablett that he wanted to write about his life no holes barred .Ablett said he wouldn't co-operate so Linnel said he was going ahead anyway. At the end of the meeting Gazza just looked at him and said "you're going to here a lot of stories" and so he did.
