nup most polls have him ahead.Even sheedy has him as the best player ever.I remember when all that debate was going on about ablett being in the hall of fame,mike sheehan said that the case put forward for ablett being selected was that he put more buts on seats then anyone to ever play the game.

i have payed alot of attention to the best ever palyer polls and ablett wins most of them.

So in other words, the "most polls" that you refer to actually translates to "kevin sheedy" (provided he did say that- I'm taking your word on it).
Most people 20yrs+ would nominate Lethal as the best player ever.

Ablett was the most exciting, and probably the greatest natural talent, but Lethal was the best.

Im not saying he's not the greatest. IMO this is an impossible task to determine. Have you seen Gorden Coventry or Jack Dyer play? I havnt seen them, or even Ted Whitten, or early career of Gary Ablett. It is impossible for someone to conclude who is the greatest of all time.

Okay, I was unaware you meant BigFooty polls, thought it was more ones from the experts or ex footy players or players of today. Of course Ablett wins them here, just like carey is ALWAYS regarded as the greatest CHF ever here, its the demographic involved

Yeah you are right! When Snr only averaged 7.5 goals a game for the entire 93 season he was nowhere near as consistent as Jnr. Was it because he only played 17 games? Or because he only kicked a little less in the next 2 years?

Ablett jnr actually reminds me a lot of Matthews; *if* Geelong were to grab a couple of flags with jnr's assistance then he will be right up there as one of Geelong's greatest ever players, snr, Polly, Goggin, Hickey, Todd, Wade, all of them.

Look I never slighted Gary Ablett Senior here, just saying that his son has a remarkable consistency that is rarely seen in Footy, at least this season, particularly for someone this young. This doesn't mean that he WILL go on to be better than his father, just that most of this thread have made up their minds already, and probably wont change them no matter what occurs
