No worries. I never thought you were having a go.

I realise this avi is probably a bit bigger than it needs to be.
I've just tried to make it a high enough quality so theat everyone can burn their own dvd/svcd rather that have to watch it via a pc.

Anyway, everyone with a decent connection should have it sometime tomorrow.

Oh, can I jump out of the computer and kiss you? :p

Added to my queue now, currently showing no seeds, but 10 peers, downloading at a lovely 45k :D or therabouts.

I am new to the torent caper I was hoping someone could help me out a little.

I have downloaded the file, and can't wait to watch it.

I have tried opening it in a media player but it doesn't start anything up and I just get this message.

"Cannot play this media file
(0x80040265)"

Has anyone got some help suggestions. it would be greatly appreciated.

Try this:
Download VLC Media Player. I don't think (through experience, not any particular knowledge) that AVI files work in Media Player, so I googled it as to what to do and VLC media player was suggested by some site. It's brilliant; great for watching movies and pretty much any format you like. It says (under the Information menu) to visit www.videolan.com so I guess that's a good start but you could just google it like I did.

Might I add, D0nk, you lucky sod, that my broadband can't seem to beat even half your speed even if it tried.

THERE ARE NO SEEDS.. It would be great if you could seed the file!!!!

There are seeds.
I'm seeding at 110 kb/s and I'll keep the seed open for a few days yet.

Can you get any seeds from other mininova torrents? Maybe you need to try a different port.

Ezbian - how big is the avi file? Are you sure you have downloaded it completely?

If you are having trouble playing it, use the vlc player as recommended on the torrent page.
You may also need the latest codecs. Download the xvid codec here: http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/
Or the k-lite codec pack from www.free-codecs.com

common mistake of new torrent users is to think the torrent file is the file they want. The torrent file is used by a torrent client such as azureus to manage the download of the real file. If you haven't got one already, download a torrent client and open it with that.

As others have said, use the VLC media player. I had the same problem the first time I loaded a bit torrent video, and it has something to do with the encoding of the files. It will play beautifully in that player.

I usually use Zoom player, of course I've installed a few codecs for it, but mainly use this, as when connect to the TV the picture is usally moved to the right a bit, but Zoom player makes it fit to the whole screen perfectly.

Awesome, now this is done, will seed. Now to burn it off, connect the laptop to the TV and enjoy!

Thanks again LongBomb

Okay, so I downloaded uTorrent as Longbomb suggested... Then I open it, copy the link Longbomb gave from IE (http://www.mininova.org/tor/293981), and go to File/Add Torrent from URL. I pasted the given link in there and it took about 5 seconds and then said "Unable to load 'utt3.tmp'". Any suggestions?

I don't use utorrent, but I suggest you download the torrent file -just click on the ablett.avi.torrent link and utorrent should kick in. If it doesn't, save the torrent file to disk and go to File->Open or whatever the utorrent equivalent is and find the torent file you just downloaded.

I am using BitTorrent. I went to the website that Longbomb posted. I clicked download. It said it had no seeds & no leeches and its not downloading at all for me.

What is the bittorrent client you're using? I used Azureus and had no problems. I'm currently seeding it and there are 30 peers and 3 seeds so it should work. Try it again I guess.

I've watched it all the way through, and I have to say I'd actually forgotten how good he was. I could sit and watch it over and over again......

Dont worry, I got UTorrent and forced a start and it is working. Although at this rate it'll be completed by 2013. Thanks everyone for making this possible. Hopefully the vision is better than what it is on my VHS tape as it is worn out from repeated overuse!

It could be that more people are using Azureus, so there might be more people seeding/leeching from it. I'd suggest downloading Azureus and trying it out, it may download quicker for you.

One thing to note is that the mininova tracker is pretty dodgy.
It will often show 0 seeds when tere are in fact several seeds.

I've uploaded over 6gb so I know a few people must have the file now.

Sammy, you might want to try changing ports as some ISPs block certain ports. Which client are you using?

When I started downloading this (using utorrent) I was getting 0 seeds, 0 peers, so I both registered at mininova and enabled dht, which I have no idea what dht is, but I'd previously been told to disable it at another site (I think it's on by default anyway, so probably wont be a problem). So not sure which of the two was what made it work, but it was one of those - I assume probably registering ;)
I thought I'd downloaded from there before without registering, but maybe I hadn't??

Also for people unfamiliar with torrent and who have a router, you may need to set up the port forwarding to get better download speeds. http://www.portforward.com/
I don't know/remember much about this, just remember I had to do it a while back.

Yes port forwarding will definately improve your download speeds. :thumbsu:

You may want to try your modem/router's manufacturer's website, thats how I set mine up.
