Actually, no, I agree with you. I am sure now that he plays just so he can his name in the paper with "Possessions - 40" next to his name, not because he actually wants work to hard, win the ball and try to dispose of the ball to advantage of Geelong. It has to be because he wants to be in first place on the Herald Sun 'Disposals' leaderboard.

This isn't a debate between Swan and Ablett regarding who gets more cheap disposal. For someone who is considered by so many to be the best in the game 50% of his disposals are cheap and useless. That wouldn't be such a problem if people didn't carry on about how each and every touch he has is pure magic. I think Tim Watson was 100% correct in his comments last week. I am enjoying him having a little cry at the end of Geelong losses. Reminds me of the 08 GF

Will he get any Brownlow votes tonight?

Boyd/Johnson/Selwood/Cooney/Scarlett/Lake all played excellent games.

If Lake doesn't get the 3 votes in the Brownlow this week then defenders might as well not show up on Brownlow night.

IMO, he was the best player on the field by quite a margin.

But maybe i'm partial to defenders. I thought Scarlett was Geelong's best.

I'm over bagging Ablett about the 1-2's. He is still a gun and has had to change the way he plays this year but there is no doubt he was just as effective last year with 25 touches as he is this year with 40 touches.

People go on about it like Ablett is the only player in the comp that gets possessions in a 1-2 situation and that is the only way he gets his hands on the ball.

Maybe the club like the ball to be given to the player with the best disposal and decision making ablity.

If you had a choice to handball it to Ablett 2 meters away or kick it 20 meters up the feild to Byrnes you don't have to wonder which option has the better chance of the ball ending up with the most advantage to the team.

I can neither deny nor confirm, since I haven't asked him. Since the only proof we have one way or another is a grimace after being runner up in the Brownlow (supposedly), I am not sure that being 'passionate' about it is really what we're looking for here. I am sure he'd be disappointed to lose the Brownlow after being the favourite two years in a row - but to assert that he is passionate about winning it is more than a bit of a stretch!

All the others that went close were also probably full of booze and not trying to get ready for a grand final that week.

As if anyone could sit through a brownlow and be happy at the end if they could not dull down the boredom with some alcohol.

Ablett gets so many possessions because he runs his arse off. His possessions are all quality, including his many handballs. Opposition know how quickly he can burn them off and put them to the sword, so he drags about three players to him and always releases into space, creating room for his teammates to run in waves.

Very little to criticise about his game.
