He was remarkable in the 2nd half against Sydney last week. Can't remember how many stats he had then, but it was forward of centre and everything he did seemed to have an impact.

Too many times this year I see him squirting around the back half looking for cheap stats. He can still be the best player when he wants to be, but he's simply not at the moment.

He'd probably 1-2 to himself if they would count it.

Why he is even still on the list? Surely we will be looking to offload him in a trade involving Keplar Bradley and Stepehen Dodd. Lets see if we can pull another one over on those dockers!

JUDD is much better than ablett....Ablett gets all his possessions in the defensive 50, doesnt get half as many clearances as juddy asnd gets cheap 1-2's....end of story....juddy sends the ball inside 50 more than anyone else.....

Massive but pointless post.
I always cringe when I see intricate stats posted to support and argument such as Judd is better than Ablett, Swan is better than Judd etc.

I have eyes and these are the same two instruments which most supporter, coaches and umpires use to determine how well a player went or is going.
My eyes tell me that no matter how many disposal, HP's, tackles etc. Ablett had last night, he did not have a huge influence on the game.
Judd, Swan and Ablett have all had several high possession games in which their tallies had less impact on the result than other game with much lower possession.

Judd has his bad games as does Swan, but I would have any in a side at the drop of a hat.

Statistics are very, very rarely the true indicator of in game performance.
They are a tool which can help in assessment but that is it.

If a player has 40+ disposals in a game and yet the side loses then possibly another player should have had the ball more often?

Geez, one week he plays an absolute blinder away from home in a pressure game - and i do mean an absolute blinder - and everyone is quiet. Than the next week he has an average game (whilst still picking up a measely 40 stats whilst being tagged) and everyone is criticising him as being the least influential player to ever exist??? I would hardly be dissapointed with his efforts last night, sure things didn't happen the way the normally do for him, but if thats his bad game **** his good game is going to be special. And even though i'm sure Judd has never had a non-influential game in his life, especially last week when he was just so dominant, Ablett still only attracks half the salary, so i'm pretty comfortable with the Cats list management on that behalf.

Guess people have some Ablett jealously. You would all love him in your team.

Lets just wait until we play finals again, he hasn't been too bad in those.

Re: Stats and Gazza.

It reminds me of Malcom Blight's criticism of Robert Harvey, in that he was getting his posessions in the wrong places. Just because you can get a posession doesn't mean you should. Sometimes it benefits the team not to run to places just to get a touch.

Ablett is so respected by his team mates (rightly so, he is a champion) that they are obliged to give him the ball every time he calls for it. If he starts to spend more time forward of centre his posessions may be down but I think Geelong will benefit.

Love seeing all the hawthorn supporters bag ablett. Imagine this.
Gary Ablett Snr settles in the city and stays with hawthorn and has a great career with some premiership wins, plays on and retires in 1997 as he did Geelong. Gary Ablett jnr goes to hawthorn via father/sun rule.
I doubt you would be bagging him if he was in your colours.

Swan is currently better then Ablett and Cameron Wood is better then Melbournes entire list. :thumbsu:

Ahhhhh.....no!!!

Just wait until the finals my friend, when your little love puppy, Mr Dane Swan, gets found out by the cream of the crop.....

He's a good footballer at best, who'll be forgotten a few years after he's gone.

Ablett Jr. will be immortalized in history.

His change in stats over the years reflect Geelong's changing running game.

I'd still have 25 Ablett stats over a lot of other players in the league, even if he racks up the odd 1-2 cheapy stat.

I don't understand why there's so much for the bloke, though. A hard-running midfielder who provides a lot of run and coolness under pressure. I'd have him at port in a ****ing heartbeat.

If everyone's so uptight about him getting high numbers then just rename kicks as disposals and forget handballs. Last night he had 17 kicks, the equal-second most on ground.

Waste of time!

The fact is Hawks gave Ablett the boot because he was TROUBLE as opposed to him wanting to leave because he did not settle into city life. Not a worry in the world for Hawks fans just ask Dermie with 5 medals around his neck. In terms of Ablett Jnr well he played last year and Hawks added another trophy to the cabinet.

I don't think it mattered where Ablett Snr lived he always had serious issues and maybe he survived at the Cats because they turned a blind eye unlike the Hawks.

I'm a huge fan of Ablett but must say he was disappointing last night, some of his kicking in the last quarter last night was quite questionable, and how often he would run 15m to the side of someone with the ball on the wing was sad to see. Didnt seem to take the game on as much as he should have.

Every time Ablett got a cheapie, a one two or was seen sheep doggin I yelled out his name along with some form of expletive infront of it.

I said it so many times that my voice became sore and my mates had left me alone.

Good player but not the best in the league and not even the best at Geelong.

Who's better then?

Just about everytime he disposed of the ball out of defence it led to a goal for Geelong, or atleast a scoring oppurtunity.

Steve Johnson is definitely more important.

Which is a sad indictment on your key forwards

Didak and Davis are your most important forwards.

Which is a sad indictment on Cloke and Anthony. How do you reckon those two are going to go in the finals?
