Gary Ayres (and dyertribe) must be the only person in Adelaide who doesn't rate Bode

I don't think that headline in the Advertiser was a long way off.

There we were getting thrashed in the first three quarters and Bode was just sitting on the pine the entire time.

Come the final quarter, enter Matthew Bode. And he injected a bit of life into our performance with the qualities we've come to know and love from him - his hardness at the ball and his ferocious tackling.

I know he would have had a bit more in the tank than the players who'd had a lot more groundtime. But still, why wasn't he on earlier when we were getting flogged?

Damn right. Matthew is a pony.

For what we traded for him I'd expect much more than an inconsistent fringe midfielder whose best is very good but we only see it twice or thrice a year.

John West... erm... Port was right to reject him.

I really don't know what Bode has to do to get game time. Once again tonight he showed his value when he got on in the 4th quarter. We don't have real hunters and Bode is the player that can fill that role.

Either play him or drop him but stop screwing around with him.

Spot on.

Schuback should be back in the side next week.

Add me to the list to. He's a hack!

Reason being: He's an onballer who kicks around corners too much making it impossible for forwards to read him.

As for what you traded for him....six of one, half dozen of the other right now. S Burgoyne isn't playing any better, but at least he has some room for immense improvement.

Bode deserves either more gametime or should be dropped. We have so many inconsistent kicks its doesnt matter whether he is on the field, what he does offer though is an in-and-under play who can get the hard balls out. If he concentrates more on feeding a handball out of a pack to one of our running players, he would be very valuable.

I'd agree with that.
Pace and disposal have not improved. Mattner gets canned, but he attacks the ball and player as hard as Bode, has better disposal, so if Mattner is bad, how is Bode better?

Exactly, this "Ayres doesn't give him enough time on the ground" is an absolute copout.

If Bode had shown enough consistency and ability in his past few years at the AFC he wouldn't be riding the pine in a struggling side.

It might be just me but bode reminds me of matt connell,
he gets great opertunitys with the ball but its like he closes his eyes when disposing!
yes i know matty won a gold jacket but i always thought he should'nt have as he turned it over so regulary.
as we wont get much for bode at the trade table i recon we either persist or teach him to be a forward pocket specilist.

Its been a common complaint about the standard of our midfield disposals to the forwrds.
We really struggle in this area, Stenglein, Bode, Burton, and even Roo are not good, or consistent enough.
Begley showed a couple of times last night the value of good decsion making and disposal.

I thought Begley's delivery into the forward line was rubbish.

Not sold on his decision making either; he looks panicky under pressure.

What didn't you like about it - from where I sat he wasn't turning the ball over, and that pass to Carey was very good, given he would have seen Carey out of his periphial vision.

DaveW, if you classed Begley's disposal as rubbish last night how would you call the rest of the team.

Begley played a VERY good game last night and was one of probably 3 players that actually used the ball properly.

But Begley was one who was able to find space, with time to deliver into the forward line. Yet he'd execute with these high up-and-under kicks.

Contrast that to the superb slick delivery of say, Mark Johnson.

Bode may well be in a form slump but at least he has respect for people. One of the nicest crows boys by far.

And Bode certainly isnt a Hack. Id like to see others get in there and put your body on the line like he does week in week out.

Bode puts in 100% all the time. He didnt deserve the minimal game time he got and it isnt helping his form.

Garbage. I've seen him play for Glenelg this year and he has'nt even put in 100% for them. How he got back into the Crows team I don't know. He's had his chances and he isnt up to it.

Schuback has received a very rough deal.

You know, I take Stiffy's point, but you could almost replace "Begley" with "The Crows" and "Mark Johnson" with "The Bombers"!!

Bode had a wonderful 2002 season, he isnt a hack just someone playing like a hack at the moment.

He needs to get some confidence back because he has good disposal despite everyone smashing him on this thread. He is maybe our best in and under guy and you need players like him and Johncock in your side.

Maybe from clearances he goes around the body too frequently, but with him not there we dont get the ball from tight situations.

I'd prefer to play him as a crumber up forward for now so he can get some confidence back. He can read the play and is a great kick for goal. Theres no way the crows would delist someone they traded a first round draft pick for 3 years ago. Hes still relatively young and it'd be stupid to let him go for nothing. He would definately be taken in the top 30 of the draft if hes delisted.
