Gary Hardeman- Forgotten and underrated

Perhaps a strange thread hours before the prelim but I have wondered about this for years. Why is Hardeman 's name never mentioned in discussions about past champions?

He seems to be the invisible man even though he went close to being a brownlow medalist and played for Victoria on a number of occasions.

Is he not highly regarded at Melbourne?

He may be in your team of the century(I'm not sure) but his name never comes up on SEN or The Front Bar style shows.

Any insights as to why he is not referenced more often?

My partner knows him quite well. Great player and apparently great bloke - very quiet and unassuming person though.

The lack of attention could just be down to accessibility. He didn’t maintain a presence around VFL/AFL post football so as the years went by, his name drops off the interview list.

Was one of our very best players, as PG said, a very quiet unassuming player, never sought attention. Is the CHB in our Team of the Century, which tells you how good he was, all Australian, runner up as a CHB in the Brownlow, Vic representative, just an absolute champion. Have very fond memories of watching him play. Never put in a bad game.
