Gary annoys me because he is always having a crack especially when its to do with my club which lets face it has not done a great deal wrong on or off field in last few years

What annoys me most is he gets very defensive when Melbourne gets called out when they deserve it

But this is not Gary's problem he is in the media he is not a coach he helped them not long ago but media is what he wants to do

Sounds a bit like your president, doesn't it?

I have no idea why people bring up Lyon he has said heaps of times he dosent want to coach what is wrong with that, Not all footy people who work in the media want to coach and there is nothing wrong that.

What can Lyon do anyway he has not interest in working on the board and stuff like that he probarly wouldnt have a clue about stuff like that, This is part of the problem Melb get into they get themselves into trouble and expect a former player to help them out.

Melb need to get a bew CEO a strong one and get players who want to put there bodys on the line week in week out and if players dont do that u get rid of them and get players who do.

I cant see Garry Lyon coaching, but I can see him as President. That McLardy guy needs a spell, he doesn't look healthy.

Hopefully the pressure becomes too great, and he does the old: "F-ck it. I'm in. It's worth the risk."

You make it sound like Melbourne gave birth to Lyon and helped pay for his schooling. He played football for them, thats it. If it wasnt the MFC, it would have been another club, because its not like Lyon was a horrible player. Again, I am not sure why everyone thinks he has some weird obligation to help them.

Geelong had something similar with Sam Newman, who did little to help during the "dark ages" except offer criticism. Yet from a supporters perspective, I personally never cared, because he obviously didnt want to put in anymore commitments, and thats his choice.

I'm pretty sure that over the years he's provided a truck load of cash to the club.

Is that you Stan Alves? ;)

Sheedy never wanted the job in the first place which is why he chose Neeld. Sheedy is past it and wont coach again after this year as he is getting on in years and not even he will make a differnece in the short term

Sheedy went for a interview and Lyon and co picked Bailey.

If the future of the MFC rest on the shoulders of a single bloke who doesn't even want to get involved with the club then they may as well just fold now.

Honestly, if Garry doesn't want a bar of it then he's not the man for the job anyway. The club is an absolute basket case, forcing him I there will result in the job being done half chop again and the vicious circle will continue.

Garry should stick to taking pot shots at 20 yr old footballers from his ivory tower.

Oh wait he is doing that.

Felt sorry for the Bulldog kid last night that was highlighted in a 10 second grab.

Of all the hours of game footage from 9 games and we get that self demoralising piece of footage aired.

Sad.

Well if he is contracted for employment in his media roles, what can he really do at this point? He's hardly going to quit the media to take on his first AFL coaching gig (if that's what people are expecting of him) after the season has already started, with no time to prep or develop his own plan over the pre-season, etc. Would just be dooming himself to fail.

Hird quit his lucrative business and media and commitments to take the role at Essendon.

Why is it all about Garry Lyon?
What about David Schwarz?
He's another ex-Melbourne champion in the media. I'm sure he could lend a hand.

Can't see how a rookie coach who last played the game in the 20th century could possibly be the answer.
I think you nailed it one. He's never coached, can talk a bit about footy that makes him seem like he'd make a good coach, but has no experience at senior level and would be a disaster. Why do Melbourne insist on coaches that never done so at the highest level? Bailey, Neeld and this obsession with Lyon?

As a neutral, he seems to want to be involved in the club but doesn't want to be held accountable. He's involved to an extent uses his media commitments to also distance himself. I think he either needs to fully involve himself in the club or stop using the media to commentate on how he thinks it should be run. I get that his obvious connections to the club mean he is a credible person to discuss Melbourne matters in the media but IMO he needs to get serious about either helping trying to turn the club's fortunes around or not.

Hird could always be bought. Certainly money talks

I love how your posts have absolutely no real world common sense to them. Hird, who leaves a lucrative business career (for as long as he is coach that is) to take on the toughest role in the AFL for what to you is apparently a lot of money.

I mean the long and short of it is, you're either a troll or an idiot. My personal feeling is both; but hey - I'll let the masses decide that.

For starters he can stop making out as if he can do a better job than those currently holding the position.

I'm just going by his history. Read his book? Loved working with The Age? Sun offered him more $ and he left the same day?
Hey, everyone has his price.
