Darren Gaspar isnt half the player he used to be since his reconstruction.

Is it a case of confidence or do you think the injury has decreased his effectiveness? Gehrig tore him apart today

I agree anyway.
Been worried about our defense for years now.

Gasper always was, imo, never gonna be effective until around round 10.
In fact that's when i tipped he would be back.

I believe this suggests that he is severely underdone.

It will take him a while to get back to his over-rated self.:D

He looks a shadow of what he was a season or so ago.

Lacks pace and agility and looks really low on confidence.

I only recall a few occassions where he was able to make a contest of the ball with his direct opponent but usually was well beaten.

I hope that its only an issue of confidence and match fitness coming back from that injury, otherwiswe our defence will be even more suspect as the year wears on.

*Things to do during the off season.

We need to address our lack of defensive depth at large.

We need to re-structure that whole muttha fukka and with it
instill some real confidence down there.

Another thing is,
WHY ARE WE SUCH A PUNY LOOKING SQUAD.
Get Hafey working in the gym ffs.

Its not his knee, its his head thats the problem.

He's not had a good full season for us since he signed his last contract. Take note Frawley, he wanted money, you begged him to stay and gave him whatever he wanted, and he's not been the same player for us since.

If they want to play for money and not premierships, better to lose players than keep them. The Saints are doing much better without Everitt and Barry Hall these days.

Actually, Gaspar started on Reiwoldt and kept him pretty quiet. It was only because Gehrig was tearing Hall apart that Gaspar was moved. Gehrig was quieter once Gaspar moved onto him, but this brought Reiwoldt into the game.

Gaspar played a reasonable defensive game, but didn't give us any drive. Looks to be still underdone.

We really need to find another key backman to help out Gaspar, and one that can provide some drive out of defence. While Hall in theory could be this player, he still needs to develop a fair bit to show that he is capable of filling this hole.

before his knee he was one of the best defenders in the comp.at the time of his contract he was worth what he got and in fact the club had no choice as freo could have got him for nothing.like all players and in general you like to get a pay rise dont you?
in fact mr humper you will find gasper was one of the players who have taken a pay cut to get brown across.
to say he,s cruising is just bull****.i guess in your opinion coming back from a knee reco is nothing.ask dragga!

That Gaspar is playing at all this early in the season is a minor miracle. He'll take a while to regain some of his speed and agility, but what he'll never regain, becuase he never had it before the injury, is the ability to make quick thinking decisions with the ball in his hands under pressure or be able to dispose of the ball properly. But I've learnt to live with that.

One thing that concerns me though, especialy if he is never able to recapture the speed he once had, is Gaspar's size. He is nearly half the size of blokes like Tarrant, Gerhig, Lloyd, Hall etc. Why hasn't he developed any body mass throughout his tenure at tigerland?

Ox is correct, our whole team is a bunch of skinny runts. Given the lack of size on our players you'd think the RFC gym is packed out with Tae bo video cassettes and equipment you'd find being sold on late night tv, endorsed by the likes of Chuck Norris. Wtf is going on?

Get these boys on the bench press and doing some heavy squats and drop the new age cosmetic machinery FFS!

Well said. Gehrig had 4 before half time on Hall while Riewoldt was held by Gas. Once they were swapped Gehrig only got 1 more goal for the rest of the game while Riewoldt got 3-4. Not getting smashed in the middle at ground level might have helped also.

We can now see why Miller chased Solomon all the way to London for two reasons. To give us some hardness as well as drive off the backline. Too bad we just missed out.

Maybe they should eat spinach. It works for Popeye. The pipe would help toughen their image too. A few pipes might help in fact cos they'd have trouble seeing clearly straight ahead so wouldn't even bother trying to look sideways.
Better still get a northern neighbours crack medicos in for a while to get the roids into them.
