I agree that we overrated him. He was a very good defender, but to be realistic, he always struggled when outmuscled. Throughout his career it seemed that he got spanked by Carey, Lynch, Lockett and Lloyd seemingly more often than it should happen to the best going around. There was also a fairly lean batch of quality big forwards early in his career. Big Sav - LMAO. If we are going back 4, 5 or 6 years, I actually think that Hay and Fletcher were far better.

Cannot doubt that he has always given 110% and used what he has got to its best potential.

deadset wrong mate, for a skinny bloke he was very good against bigger opponents, deceptively strong. He shut out carey a fair few times, lynch never took him to the cleaners, did well on tredders, and lloyd was nigh on unstoppable in 2000-2001 wen the bombers owned ass, even then he never did anything wrong and never got absolutley pasted. check the stats im sure im right on this, actually i know im right, he was the best negator in the business bar none, the thing that let him down was his kicking.

Gaspar is a pretty decent kick of the football.

People need to remember, a teams skills look 10 times better when they are winning and they have players running into position.

When you are being beaten, the whole team becomes more defensive, and then you have fewer options to deliver the ball to.

When we talk about round 2, the skills of the whole team were terrible. But what you would have noticed, if you actually followed the RFC was that gaspar made a hell of a lot of contests and had no one to give the ball to when he got. Thus the skill errors. With his knee, he wasnt able to make the contests last year. When you consider on the weekend how he landed awkwardly on the wing and got up, his knee is back to its best and so is he.

Keep watching, Tivendale will improve every week. There is a lot of talent on the RFC list that hasnt been untapped, not to mention we havent seen tambling or schultz yet. The tigers are on the way up. How far they will go is anyone's guess.

i dont remember him being convincingly beaten during that whole period of 99-02. maybe once, but not many more times did he conceed more than 3 or 4 goals even to the likes of carey, lloyd etc. and that was only when the midfield were delivering the ball to those players in a way that could not be countered. he was the best in the business back then, no doubt about it.

I'm with Cairo. Always has and always will be overrated. Tries hard and is paid well, but is getting kudos that should put him in the same league as Silvagni, Langford and Leppitsch. He's not. Good luck to him though, happy for him to make a mockery of my opinion.

I remember bagging him for his game against Hawthorn and then saying something like "whilst Gaspar is playing a terrbile game I respect him because he was always a hard oppount to beat when against me"

We are not overrating him. Around 2001 he was a very good player.
