Gather Round 2026

Good to see the dual Premiers being rewarded with a primetime match at Adelaide Oval.Oh wait.....
Poor North having to travel to the Barossa to play a minnow from Brisbane :(

Hi Blackhawk,

The location ideally would vary each year.

My first year would go to northern Queensland. They have the infrastructure already. Cairns and Townsville. 12,000 plus capacity stadiums.

4 teams are grouped together. They play three shortened matches within their group. The winner of that group advances. So you could have Group 1 matches Friday night under lights at Cazaly Stadium, Group 2 matches Saturday afternoon, Group 3 Saturday evening and maybe group 4 in Townsville. Then Round 2 knockouts on the Sunday.

The final (perhaps a full match) is played the following Wednesday night. It would garner some good tv ratings being a stand alone event with a Gather Round premiership on offer. The winner of this competition gets a first round draft pick as a reward. Perhaps pick 10. There could be significant prize money...shared in part between players and club.

Year 2 - Albany, Bunbury

Year 3 - Albury, Wagga

Year 4 - Ballarat

Year 5 - Adelaide

Year 6 - Northern Territory.

Year 7 - Tasmania

Each year a different part of Australia gets some financial benefits via tourism. All states and territories feature.

Today's second 'Member-only presale' was a far better experience than yesterday!

The option to 'add more Gather Round tickets' to your cart and check out all together was amazing. Why couldn't that have been done yesterday???

Was pretty seamless… got 6 games booked which is the best I think could do factoring in the Barossa game

Sorry Collingwood and Essendon, you've been replaced in the big 4 by North Melbourne and Geelong

Makes sense.
I'd hate to have been a Geelong/West Coast (or any fan whos team played at Norwood/Barossa) fan and missed out because a few people just paid for the ticket of another game.

The ticketing sucked. Feels a lot like they’re going to sell in tranches to maximise the revenue and screw the fans.

Preferred it last year when it was just all released at once, least every fan had a fair chance, this year the multi passes were sold out before half the comps fans even had their priority window open.

Battling to get each individual ticket was a nightmare but got every game I wanted other than Thursday Night in the end.

All games except Dons v Dees will sell out. Ridiculous to have this as a repeat matchup. And why waste a big club Ike Carlton against the Crows. Should have been Crows v Dees and Blues v Bombers.

I reckon they'll all technically sell out but some of the AO games will be half empty.

I was at the Carlton V WC game this year and it looked like 25K were in the house despite the alleged sell out.

Instead of paying 350% more for accommodation nearby to Adelaide Oval, can anyone offer advice/a suggestion for those driving to Adelaide?

Ideally I'd like to find accommodation that doesn't have inflated prices that would get me from my accommodation to Adelaide Oval via bus/train in less than one hour. Aka I'm happy to stay 30km outside of Adelaide (preferably on the east side so it's closer to Victoria) if it means I'm paying $400 for a one night stay instead of $2,000.

I note Beachside and Yattalunga are about 35km from Adelaide Oval but bus trips aren't direct and it would be approx a 90 minute journey due to connecting buses.

Most accomodation looks like its booked out.

Can always stay in Victor. They have accomodation but just over an hours drive

Jump on airbnb and find yourself a private room from anywhere between $70 and $150/night, which then only needs a 20 minute bus ride to the Oval. Much cheaper than booking a hotel room / apartment for $800+/night

I booked an AirBnB in Hahndorf - it's on the Melbourne side of Adelaide so 'closer' for driving.

Not sure if they run busses into AO from there, you can check. I believe they run them from Mt Barker so perhaps you could try there?
