Just insane. So are they just going to let it die?
Surely something in return is better than nothingJust insane.
Best to get in the local football & cricket teams at a reasonable price.
The local taxpayers are paying for it any way.
The issue is, that the clubrooms themselves haven't been built in a way that's profitable.Just insane.

If there was any decent leadership, they would fix it.The issue is, that the clubrooms themselves haven't been built in a way that's profitable.
No bar, no kitchen.
Council don't want to pay for the fencing required on game days to keep people from sneaking in for free.
Mt Barker Cricket Club are a joke as well.
Sounds like no one wants to get their hands dirty, a long hard grindIf there was any decent leadership, they would fix it.
Like a lot of LGAs that would mean admitting fault, and that doesn't roll.If there was any decent leadership, they would fix it.
We pay the highest rates in the state, to line the pockets of Nicks level incompetenceSounds like no one wants to get their hands dirty, a long hard grind
You know you can vote then out.We pay the highest rates in the state, to line the pockets of Nicks level incompetence
The real issue with that is, Mt Barker is such a transient community that half the people in the town wouldn't even know there is a big white elephant on the hill, and thus don't care enough to vote. You know you can vote then out.
I grew up in Mt Barker & have family still living there. The real issue with that is, Mt Barker is such a transient community that half the people in the town wouldn't even know there is a big white elephant on the hill, and thus don't care enough to vote.
It's a nice place to live, but a frustrating one at the same time.
When I saw Lyndoch Oval today I thought "wow, this what we could have had"
That was a project run by the Barossa Districts FC from start to finish, they knew what they wanted and then got a huge injection of funds.
The people who did the Summit Sports Park had no idea, but to be fair the soccer facilities are amazing. NPL clubs flock to play there.
Yeah I've been a hills lad my whole life, born and bred in Gumeracha. Mt Barker was big to me 30 years ago..... now it's got 4 times the population and largely the same infrastructure.I grew up in Mt Barker & have family still living there.
I don't really recognise it compared to when it was a small country town.
I have a mate involved with the planning of the Barossa Park upgrade.Yeah I've been a hills lad my whole life, born and bred in Gumeracha. Mt Barker was big to me 30 years ago..... now it's got 4 times the population and largely the same infrastructure.
Meanwhile the small town of Lyndoch made Gather Round look easy, it was awesome.
And it will reap the benefits.I have a mate involved with the planning of the Barossa Park upgrade.
From the start the aim was to keep it running as living ground.
Not just hijacked for a few AFL games.
Having actual tenants, Footy/Cricket/Netball/Athletics will help. And it will reap the benefits.
The problem is always the upkeep for a community club, its a huge undertaking to keep the ground looking good all year.
The issue is, that the clubrooms themselves haven't been built in a way that's profitable.

Not hard to add one surelyNo bar? What footy club would be interested in that?
Not hard to add one surely
None, thats the point. No bar? What footy club would be interested in that?
None, thats the point.
When the plans were released, everyone was scratching their heads
NopeSurely they were forced to justify that part of the plans.
Sturt do pay a bit of money to use the facilities in pre season, there would be a bit of a shit fight I imagine. Given its not in a recruiting zone I think it would be a slightly odd moveThe Lyndoch model is the right one. The Mt Barker model was like the Footy Park and Waverley models from the 1970's except the HFL was the equivalent of the SANFL and VFL. It's hard to think how they thought it could work in the modern day.
If I was running that oval at Mt Barker, I'd be working hard on enticing West Adelaide FC up there to call it a permanent home, with financial commitments from the SANFL and government to assist. Given WAFC financial issues and Thebarton Oval having the Crows operating from it in a few years, a lifeline to an established SANFL club such as West may be a win/win for all. The River Murray League is also now West Adelaide country zone, so similar to how South can draw from the Fleurieu to Noarlunga. Sturt is too entrenched at Unley Oval to make the move, despite it being such a strong area for their "country" juniors.
The recruiting zones would need to be changed. It would need to be a full blooded move (pardon the pun). "Hills Bloods" a bit like the "Western Bulldogs". Sturt, footy or cricket, are never going to commit fully to the Hills, besides it being a very convenient, close to the city country area, they can bring recruits down for. With a facility as good as Mt Barker Summit and a booming population, not just in Mt Barker itself, but surrounding Hills towns, it should be utilised in full and a team based in the region servicing the region.Sturt do pay a bit of money to use the facilities in pre season, there would be a bit of a shit fight I imagine.
