Gazza's game

I've always thought of him as a bit soft but today he stood up in the tackles and really kept Geelong in it for maybe longer than they should have been. I thought he deserved the Norm Smith. Fantastic game in a GF :thumbsu::thumbsu:

I'm surprised it took you this long to rate him. He has been Brownlow favorite for the past to years.

Oh well, there's plenty of room on the Gary bandwagon:cool:

I'm a independent footy fan and thought Gazza put his heart and soul into this game and IMO should have won the Norm Smith.

At least you Cat fans have more years ahead with your young champ :)

Congratulations to Gary Ablett, clearly showing he is the best player in the league.

Even though nothing went right for you guys today, he tried his heart out and got to the point where only illegal tactics could stop him.

A true champ, and quite clearly, even at this early stage, the greatest Father/Son Combo in the history of our game.

He will keep you in with a hope of winning more flags as long as he plays.

He was the best player on the ground, but because of the margin they didnt give the medal to him, which I though was wrong.

Great game Gary, pleasure to watch you live.

Guys, today was the first time in the last couple of years I've had the chance to see Gazza play live. He is unbelievable, and played a game worthy of a Norm Smith. He is going to be one of the superstars of the comp for the next 5-7 years, no doubt. :thumbsu:

gablett was awesome today.

the thing that disappointed me, from a neutral point of view, is that his teammates didn't really protect him or stand up for him much. he was absolutely battered today, and kept going back for more.

champion.

good to finally see a Hawthorn supporter admit that.

i was at the game today. Hodge wasn't that good at all.
Gary Ablett was definately best player on the ground. He was AWESOME.
he's now been robbed of 2 Brownlows & 1 Norm Smith. HTFU votegivers !!

(just for the record, i'm an Essendon supporter)

I agree. I think he was robbed of a Norm Smith and a Brownlow this year.

The guy is an absolute superstar. My favorite player to watch. I think his season this year is probably the best I can remember by a player. He has been so dominate, that it really does seem unfair to not reward him. He got smashed alot today, some of it unfairly off the ball, but he just got on with it, didnt complain and whinge to the umpire, and showed everyone he is a class act by outplaying them rather than giving up or complaining. I have the upmost respect and admiration for him. Pity some of his team mates didnt follow his lead.

Bad luck losing today Geelong boys, but you've been an amazing team this last 2 years, and it will most likely keep on rolling next year. Just please take it easy on poor old Melbourne :(
And bloody hell lets hope they give Ablett the Brownlow he deserves next season!

As a hawk supporter watching the game I cringed everytime he got his hands on the ball...you just knew something would happen. He is a gun.

I just replied to the "Bad Luck Guys' thread, and mentioned Gary Ablett. I said, that if anyone doubted his champion status, they could no longer be doubting it after yesterday, Magnificent game by one of the true greats of our game, and what is scary, is that he will only continue to get better. And he made sure that he congratulated all the Hawthorn players. Great performance from a class act.

I love Gary Ablett.

...Yes, he's an amazing player. Yes, he played his heart out today ...almost to the Norm Smith.

But....

I love him because never gave up.

I love that, in an almost child like way, he wears his heart on his sleeve, but still has the maturity to thank every Hawks player.

I Love that he was human enough to cry at the end of today's game.

I love him because he showed he was disappointed for not winning the BL.

I love him because, as a fan, I can see the emotion in him that I feel.
_____________

I grew up watching Gary Ablett senior as a kid and until today, it was never questioned that 'til the day that I die, he was, and will be, my sentimental favourite player.

After today; Dad, kindly make way for your son.

P.S. I haven't been drinking. But I am pretty emotional. I'm gonna stop now.

I was a bit grief stricken when I wrote this last night. Can't really remember writing it to be honest. But in the cold light of day. I stand by every part of it.

He shouldn't have cried.

Not with the fall out from the Brownlow and his reputation as a sore loser.

That is way too harsh. You have no idea what it's like to play in a GF and lose, especially with all the extra pressure on the team all year to remain undefeated and consequent favouritism for the flag.

Gary personally was touted as the Brownlow Medal winner from practically round 1, and IMO was set up by the AFL (who KNEW the outcome in advance) and allowed him to be humiliated by interviews during the night and cameras trained on him constantly.

The pressure continued with Grand Final favouritism and all the "experts" tipping him for the Norm Smith. It's no wonder the poor bloke cried!

The media and the AFL have a lot to answer for. A successful AFL career (like old age) is not for the faint hearted!

I greatly admired Geelong's achievements this year but I believe the writing was on the wall during the PF, as with a bit more luck in the goal-kicking department the Bulldogs might just have pulled off the upset one week early.

Good luck for next year.
