He shouldn't have cried.
Not with the fall out from the Brownlow and his reputation as a sore loser.

I've always thought of him as a bit soft but today he stood up in the tackles and really kept Geelong in it for maybe longer than they should have been. I thought he deserved the Norm Smith. Fantastic game in a GF![]()
http://livenews.com.au/Articles/2008/09/27/Thompson_wonders_if_occasion_got_to_CatsBut Thompson could not fault his superstar Gary Ablett, one of only a handful of Cats to play anywhere near their best, and one clearly hurting after the game.
"He looked like he wanted to win so much," he said.
"I wish he had a few friends in that same frame of mind."

good to finally see a Hawthorn supporter admit that.I've always thought of him as a bit soft but today he stood up in the tackles and really kept Geelong in it for maybe longer than they should have been. I thought he deserved the Norm Smith. Fantastic game in a GF![]()
I stayed to atleast see him collect the Norm Smith which he deserved, but that was a waste of time.
I love Gary Ablett.
...Yes, he's an amazing player. Yes, he played his heart out today ...almost to the Norm Smith.
But....
I love him because never gave up.
I love that, in an almost child like way, he wears his heart on his sleeve, but still has the maturity to thank every Hawks player.
I Love that he was human enough to cry at the end of today's game.
I love him because he showed he was disappointed for not winning the BL.
I love him because, as a fan, I can see the emotion in him that I feel.

I grew up watching Gary Ablett senior as a kid and until today, it was never questioned that 'til the day that I die, he was, and will be, my sentimental favourite player.
After today; Dad, kindly make way for your son.

P.S. I haven't been drinking. But I am pretty emotional. I'm gonna stop now.
