Other Teams
Essendon
Saw these threads popping up at other team boards so I thought I would start one here. Unfortunately a lot more bad than good, some worrying signs coming out of the game.

GOOD:
- Lloydy. I'm still not sure whether or not he's close to 100% fitness but he played his heart out today despite things not going his way. A great captain's effort, could he be the one to lead the Bombers after Hird?
- M Johnson. Has been crucial to our midfield this year and tonight demonstrated why. When the rest of the midfielders were down he stood up and kept trying. Probably our best tonight.
- Hille. Thought his ruckwork was excellent, especially in the 2nd Quarter when we blitzed. Around the ground he was below his normal standard, but I think that was mostly due to fatigue (which I'll mention later). If we could find him some decent support I think our ruck problems could be solved.
- Bullen. I like the look of this kid, did a great tagging job and found enough of the ball and used it pretty well. Certainly the best of our youngsters over the last couple of weeks.

BAD:
Where to start...
- Selection. Very dissapointed in the match committee. I felt at half time we were going to struggle to run the game out considering the lack of players rotated off the bench. The commentators said that we only used 2 changes in the whole first half. Misiti and Barnard and possibly Peverill shouldn't have played tonight they were useless and kept us from being able to give players like the Johnsons, Rioli etc a rest. When you consider that Rama and Hird are also injured it makes it tough on the midfielders. I'm still wondering why Alessio was left out of the side as he seemed to be dropped. Hille needed a rest and Alessio wasn't there.
- Communication. How many times did we see players run down, have no where to go, miss simple targets and run into each other. This also goes back to injuries and selection as we've only had 9 players play every game this season (compared to Sydney's 15). The 3 players that were left out this week had all seen regular game time over the last few weeks.
- Jacobs. His injury left us severely undermanned in defense and he should have been taken off way earlier. Without him and Fletcher it was no wonder that Hall kicked 5.
- Disposal. Especially going into the forward 50. With the exception of M Johnson the delivery into the forward line was pathetic at best. J Johnson (as usual) and Mercuri were the worst of the lot. When we actually did kick it well we dominated, first through Lucas (who had a great 2nd quarter) and then through Lloyd at the end when we were down by 10 goals. Once again, a fit Rama and Hird, plus a match hardened Peverill, Misiti will
hopefully fix this.

UGLY:
- Robert f**kin Walls. Jesus this guy is pathetic. He seems to have a huge chip on his shoulder regarding Essendon and his commentary is disgraceful on a good night. It's a pity this site has a swear filter. His two comments of the night that I loved were the 'Essendon will not play finals' and '...compared to US (referring to Sydney) who've had 15 players yada yada yada'. Channel 10 should remove him from all Essendon games.
- Umpiring. 5 free kicks in the first 3 quarters of football! Numerous free kicks directly resulting in goals to Sydney plus ones that didn't go to Essendon (that Scott Lucas non-trip was 2 goal turnaround).
- Inability to stop opposition from scoring heavily quickly. Once again we saw the side go missing when the opposition got a run on. Happened last week vs West Coast (luckily had the half time break) and the week before vs Port Adelaide. I don't know what we can do about it.

If you've read this far then well done ;) I hoped you enjoyed it. Please feel free to comment. My votes for the game:
M Johnson - 3
Lloyd - 2
Lucas - 1

GOOD:
- The first half, although we should have been further in front.
- The Saints won, oops wrong game

BAD:
- The second half.
- We are terrible on the road.

UGLY:
- The umpiring, we got our usual treatment
- I have to agree with you about Robert Walls. Just how biased against Essendon can a person get?

We can only get better (I hope)

GOOD:
- This thread (top work TheMightyDons)

BAD:
- The second half of football i just watched

UGLY:
- the result of a Damien Pevrill/Barry Hall love child

The Good -
Mark Johnson - works so hard and uses the ball better than most.
Lloyd - great when the ball was near him.
Lucas - got us back in it in the first half.

The Bad -
Selection - can we plz have Cory McGrath and Shane Harvey in the team. We need their type, badly. No use having 4 average pace guys on the bench in RFK, Reynolds, Misiti and Barnard. Alessio has to play. We need two ruckman, especially since either can make an ok resting forward.
Misiti - Either play him for 120 minutes or don't pick him. He isn't and never will be an 'impact' player. Jacobs - Too loose and gets shown up repeatedly by forwards who can lead, especially when our midfield is getting beaten.
Rioli - Not saying he was bad, but ffs leave him in the centre for as long as possible. We need his spark.
Cupido - love watching him but omg he is soft.

The Ugly -
No heart in the second half.
Sydney taking uncontested marks all over the joint.
The result -

Have to agree with you CharlieG! I think Hird should step down as Captain - not because he isn't superb, but simply because he isn't able to play enough game time - and let Lloyd take over as of next year.

The Good
If our players can kick it DIRECTLY to a leading Lloyd...
The guy gives 100% every game he plays.

Lucas continues to lead from the front but can be a bit slow at times. Still he is great in the side and can now turn a game for us.

Hille is starting to show more and more each week -- keep it up boy and we may consider you a new Madden/Salmon!

The Bad
Essendon's attitude on the field this year from some of our more senior blokes.

The match committees selection at times!!!!

The Ugly
This year.

As a Swans fan, I got the impression that Lloyd is a born leader, and in my opinion should have the job in either 2004 or 2005.

From what I have heard from family members wo know a few people at the club,is that Ramanauskas is the next one to captain the side.I am very much so looking forward to seeing Rama back after the 2 week by.Will be great.Ramanauskas has always been a favourite of mine (#9 on the gurnsey :p ) and it would be so great to see him as a leader at the club.
There are a few players there that could take over because they have great leadership.I agree,Lloyd would be great also,
I'm just going with what I heard, but I'm sure that the next decision will be a vital one. Go Dons.

GOOD - Scotty Lucas. We all hear and know that centre-half forward is a bloody tough position to play. Some handle it really well, some never do. Last night we all witnessed just how good Lucas can be in that spot. Essendon wouldn't have scored anywhere near as much as they did, if Lucas hadn't of got the ball and presented consistently. Yes I'll admit a couple of his kicks didn't hit targets, but, his effort last night was very special.

BAD - Damien Cupido. If there was ever a time when I thought his performance was questionable, this week's game was it. People will say, he spent a lot of time on the bench, but, they aren't prepared to accept the reasons why he was benched. He was benched because of a lack of desperation at the times when it was needed. Perhaps he is worried about his shoulder, which could be understandable, but, I wonder, the way the Swans got into his head, whether his mind is truly switched on. He is probably due for a rest.

UGLY - Selection policies. Why in hell would you drop Alessio, McGrath and Davies, play Misiti who clearly wasn't fit, along with Barnard and Peverill. Out of the incoming players, only Peverill did a reasonable job (on Williams), until he was moved off after half-time. The other 2 clearly cannot be justifiable.

I try my best to tolerate people at the football, but for the 1st time in a loooong time I had to switch the TV over cause of Robert Walls. What is this guys problem? Does Sheedy have to come out and say something again for him to get the hint? Along with Tim "go back to the Tobin Brothers" Lane, it was with out a doubt the worst commentating ive ever heard. I even turned off "on the couch" last night cause he started dribbling about the swans. Would pay a small fortune to see him get run over by a car!

GOOD:
- Mark Johnson. Gives his left nut for the team every week, but sometimes its all in vain.
- Matty Lloyd - Can kick goals from anywhere. 5 straight, with 3 from outside 50

BAD: (where to start)
- Consistency - where is it? 11 goal win on Anzac day, then a 7 goal loss to Freo; 10 goal win against the Hawks, then a 10 goal loss to Port; season making win against the Eagles, then a 9 goal loss to the Swans. Please - find some consistency!!!
- Interstate Travelling - are the boys taking the interstate trips to easy? Heavy losses to Brisbane, Fremantle and Sydney on the road is not what a team who wants to play finals needs. More than likely an interstate final would be a result of making the finals.
- The midfield speed - outclassed and outrun by the younger Swans. The Bombers bring back Barnard, Misiti and Peverill all in one week, dropping McGrath, who was one of Essendon's best against the Eagles. Mark Johnson worked his ass off, but was a lone hand

UGLY:
- Damien Peverill - his days as a run with tagger are over. He's just too slow nowdays for the elite midfielders of the comp
- Selection commitee - As I said above, some poor selection decisions were made for the weekend. Why did they drop Ces for - he plays his best game a year against the Swans?

PASS ME A SHOTGUN:
- Robert Walls. If you collected the amount of crap Walls speaks, you would have enough to fill up the Werribee Treatment plant 10 times over. The guy is BLATENTLY BIASED against Essendon, yet there is not one word said about it. I'd rather listen to Ed on the Collingwood show than hear him again.

Can't add, but I'll quote ;)

Yes, I like the way you think. :) :p

Agreed. The guy is an absolute ****er. He is willing to say Essendon won't play finals, but does he realise 8 positions minus 6 interstate teams means two Victorian clubs? If we won't play (and I still have faith...we're nowhere near what we can be), then who bloody well will Robert? He's worse than Eddie Mcguire
commentating Collingwood. At half time he was talking about how bad Ball (Ball? Yes? The ruckman?) had been. Halfway through the third quarter, here comes this gem from Robert: "Geez Ball's been good tonight hasn't he?" Someone asked him on 3AW if he would support Essendon in September if they were the last Victorian hope. Fair enough, there are certain teams we all wouldn't support, but all he said was "NO" in the most arrogant way. Week after week he comes out with pathetic comments about Essendon. And most of the time he's proved wrong. And of course it gets worse when he compares us to his beloved Brisbane. The guy is a disgrace; he is so blatantly biased and should not be allowed to commentate Essendon games if he's gonna carry on with that ****.
