I don't really care about how Carlton viewed Gibbs 2017 season. All that mattered was our own club's judgment of Gibbs. They failed to consider his age as a problem and overpaid heavily. If it had been any other player they would have baulked at the trade but this was Gibbs, a player they'd been trying to get for years. Ego definitely played a part there especially considering how they missed out him the year before. Got to get those PR victories right?

Worth pointing out Adelaide overrated the state of their own list pretty badly too. You don't start going into "final piece of the puzzle" thinking unless your whiffing your own farts.
I do, because it's a vital part of any trade is a players previous form. You can't have the argument of "he was teetering on finished and we paid anyway because of age" if you're going to ignore his actual form, which was anything but at that point seeing Gibbs at that point was consistently good. If Gibbs had a poor 2017, we most likely get him for half to a third of that price.

Odds are if it is any other player who was a top line midfielder, we would have paid. It was a need and at that point you can be forgiven, after all, we did lose a grand final that year. You're firmly allowed to think final piece when your results indicate you are close.

Not sure you give someone new to the club a leadership role. But 100% agree on Doedee

Nah, just get Doedee in and make it a long term one. Tell him it's up to him to mold the next flag winning team and get some real qualities in there
Instead of beer and pizza nights it will be movies and popcorns

I don't think we overrated our list at all at the end of 2017, Champion Data agreed....it's what has followed that's the biggest problem, an abomination of a preseason last year and a significant catastrophic change in game plan magnified in the 2019 season with the ease half decent oppo coaches have been able to break it down.

Completely ignoring the concept of player development plays a big part too.

Gallucci and Milera the most damning, but even guys slightly further along in their careers like Laird and Atkins have been allowed to stagnate.

it was a pleasure to burn.

Is Fog our leading goalkicker this year? No, it goes Walker, Betts, Jenkins, Murphy (!!!), Lynch...

Do you reckon Brett Burton watches Brisbane and reckons he had something to do with it? Yes

Does Kate Ellis ever ask herself what the fu** she’s doing on a football club board? Nope

Does any media personality listed as a Crows ambassador ever criticize the club in a public forum, or is that left to Stephen Rowe every time? No, Yes

Does anyone doing Ben Hart’s performance review keep a straight face? Yes, in a frozen-mask-of-terror kind of way

Does Campo really give a fu**? Yes, but not how we think

Does Matthew Clarke think his calling is anything other than coaching amateurs? Great question.

Does Don Pyke think any of the aforementioned people won’t completely send his coaching career down the s**tter? No, hopefully.

Do any Crows fans still care? Some of them, yeah,
I love it when you answer rhetorical questions.

Lots of scathing attacks on players, coaches and the club, guess that is what these forums are for, to get it out of our system. A couple of points I wanted to make that might be considered.

1. This collective (pun intended) sub par performance is nothing new or an aberration, which is what the coaches seem to think it is, in fact it was the perceived great effort last week against West Coast that was the anomaly, and my observation was that against WC we actually were very efficient inside forward 50, something we have been poor at most of this season, and last for that matter. Last night the team gave it a go but the lack of reward for effort on the scoreboard and the opposite effect for the opposition of still being in the game (in front for Collingwood) even though they were statistically getting beaten is a consistent theme for us, has been for a while. As soon as we drop off a little in effort (only natural when not getting rewarded for it) we get over-run, and look even slower and less interested than normal.

2. The players do not have the confidence to take enough risks and try and create opportunities to score, it is as though they have been paralised with fear of failure, this is not an ability thing, it is firmly between the ears. We will end up where we end up but we need to create an environment where standards are never compromised and that every player is assessed on their ability to contribute to winning, as opposed to not losing (very different state of mind).

3. We have a number of players with ageing bodies who have soldiered on for years for the club, often under duress, this is truly appreciated and acknowledged by the supporters, however it can not ever be repaid by career extensions or granting game selections, as a result of this a laser focus on success (premierships) is compromised. My observation is that there seems to be a lot of this going on at Adelaide at the moment.

Unfortunately no matter what the press people say the 2019 season was shot several weeks ago, I hope that the club listens to its supporters and is not afraid to do something positive for 2020 and beyond, and please don't take your member base for granted.

The most tragic thing is, even with that performance overnight we moved up a spot on the ladder.
So the club is still 'look we're in the 8!"

Hawthorn will or should belt gold coast and over take us

Imagine trying to invent a game style that requires decent passing ability and average player IQ to execute properly.

We lack both.

Why do we wonder what went wrong when you see people run brilliantly to create a switch only for some moron to go back the other way into traffic and give it to a 50/50 leading to a turnover and goal.
How do we go from playing exciting, fast, attack at all costs footy to the rubbish we are playing now? It is like watching Richmond in 2016 - slow chip back, slow chip back, slow chip, turnover. FFS how?

Peter Jonas around the time Malcom Blight went to St Kilda left and Alan Stewart end of last season.
Jonas came back and was an assistant coach under Craig and later a development coach.

He and Stewart worked with our 1st and 2nd year players from memory.

I can't remember when Jonas finished. Was perhaps when Stewart did.

Stewart finished at the end of 2017.

Doedee should at least come into the leadership group which needs a clean out as there are a couple of selfish players amongst them.
Who the **** thought it was a good idea to put Jenkins in the leadership group?

Lynch needs to go from that group too.

Really good post and wanted to talk about a couple of your points.

This fear of failure one is massive. Early in the season we got spooked by turnovers. Players even spoke about us rushing and moving the ball too quickly.

We 'fixed' the turnover problem by going sideways and shorter. If in any doubt just going long down the line. Chip chip chip. Has stymied any attacking flair.

We could have 'fixed' the problem in more proactive ways. Prioritising better skilled players, retaining a better structure ahead of the ball, 'anchoring' the back 3-4 as insurance against turnover. Instead we just eliminated all fast, risky movement that relies upon skill.

3. This is spot on. Feels like it's every man for himself at the moment - on and off the field. Pressure is on the individual. Team be damned.

Feel that they were a big loss.

Take Jackson Edwards. Not good enough, destined to be delisted regardless

But I doubt he would have walked away thinking the club didn't give a stuff about him if Stewart and Jonas had been overseeing his development.

Fog gave Lynch the death stare as Tom ran past him after giving up on a defensive chase.

There was a lot of finger pointing and dummy spits yesterday, particularly in the third quarter.

Lynch with a pisspoor one handed tackling attempt, which led to an easy Collingwood goal - he shouted at Milera.

Laird with a 1m handball that landed at Mackay's feet - the former then blamed the latter.

Brown yelling at the Crouches.
