AFL should swallow their pride and pack the Gold Coast venture in. Seems like anyone half decent coming through now is jumping ship first chance they get. All the assistance they're getting now won't make a lick of difference.
This is a piss poor comment.

AFL participation in Queensland has increased from roughly 25'000 in 2007 to 252,000 this year.
AFL participation is rising more than double the national average on the Gold Coast since the club has come into existance
AFL participation rates in Queensland this year overtook South Australia and NSW, and are already a long way in front of Tasmania, ACT and Northern Territory.
There are 591'000 people who have a permanent residence on the Gold Coast. Many who haven't followed AFL and actually have potential to grow the game. (this was always going to be a generational project)
Crowd numbers are on average higher than those of GWS and that's considering we spent the first 10 weeks of the year on the road, have been consistently poor, and the transportation to Metricon Stadium is horrid.

Put into perspective:

You're own club during it's early years in Sydney was hitting crowds of sub 10'000 people at home and won 3 wooden spoons on the trot in 1992. 1993 and 1994 with worse retention than we currently have.

Hawthorn took 32 years to make a finals series in a smaller competition.

St. Kilda has won 1 flag in it's existence, Western Bulldogs 2.

Carlton has won 5 wooden spoons since 2000.

Melbourne hadn't made finals since 2006.

Fremantle has never won a premiership.

Many clubs have bad patches. Horrible patches. No one death rides them quite like they do GCS.

What exactly about the Gold Coast football club makes you so disgruntled about the existence of the club? We're a relatively new club, finishing it's 8th season in a non-AFL dominant city, growing the game. Players were always going to jump ship during formative years, and a lot of players would leave a majority of clubs if they have a sustained lack of success - especially at a club that isn't their home state.

Gold Coast Football Club is important to the growth of the game, and this sort of statement being chanted by people who should know better is genuinely, really stupid.

We were only going to give it to the Crows for McGovern anyway. Probably a blessing in disguise. McGovern is very overrated. I'm not a fan of injury prone third talls.

I am pissed off that the AFL almost forced us into applying only to knock us back. Joke of an organisation.

Joke of an organisation... You mean the AFL or Carlton?

Don’t like the ontrade part

But priority access makes sense

However the only caveat (and this may already be the case) those players have to have nominated for the draft before 2018 and therefore all clubs have had access and missed

The whole issue with ontrading is it doesn’t improve clubs next season - rather it gives more draft picks and not players To help in 2019

This is what people said about the Sydney Swans in the early 90s.

Considering a Crows team with no Tex, Sloane, Smith, Talia, Brad Crouch, Dodee at your home ground, without wanting to win as a win could see us drop one spot down the draft order, destroyed you, I think you would struggle in any State League at this point.

So a thread about two struggling clubs getting draft assistance and you are all look at us we beat you! Onya.

You seem pretty salty.
The AFL is giving them a hand out that is of value and the Carlton poster just bitches and intimates their isnt any quality in the state leagues, when in reality they would beaten by a few SANFL or WAFL teams.

How many times do you need to be told McAdam is not rated as a 15-20 Pick player? Literally no where is he predicted to even go top 50. BS troll rumour that’s all folks.
Watched McAdam play at Sturt and plenty of talent
15-20 nup
What's this will go to Carlton then traded back to SA s**t ?

It's the AFL giving the clubs extra picks without calling it a priority pick.

They are given extra currency for nothing and no obligation to keep it.

AFL should do what has done last few years end of First Round but not to say this won’t help. Always good players at VFL and WAFL level.

These are the new priority picks. Clever work from the AFL to disguise it.

As I have posted elsewhere Carlton will pick Shane McAdam and trade him back to South Australia. He is the highest rated state league player, valued at 15-20, this years Tim Kelly. That will see them land McGovern, either straight up or as part of other deals.

Don't know what GC will do but they should be able to find 2 good mature players valued as 2nd round picks. If it was last year it would be Liam Ryan and Bayley Fitsch. If it was the year before it might've been Luke Ryan and Tom Stewart.

Why would Blues trade him?
Can’t he be of use on Blues list?

More players of State level quality. Just what both clubs really need!

You wouldn't take Tim Kelly, Tom Stewart, Liam Ryan, Bailey Fritsch, Mitch Hannan? They'd all walk into your team.

The AFL can't be seen to be rewarding a club that trades it's best midfielder with extra picks, this is the solution that gets the desired result - more picks to Carlton and Gold Coast without giving them the picks.

If there are any players in the lower leagues worth a bidding war then there might be some nice trades for them.

Blues will still get him. Bulldogs second round will be enough for him. Adelaide will accept the deal.

Lol - just like Blues rolled over and accepted what the Crows offered for Gibbs 2 years ago?

Because it isn't just special assistance. IMO it's a tad bit unfair, but that was before I knew it would replace priority picks, which is actually the better outcome.

Same as above.
Yeah its totally unfair to give the bottom teams a single player that has been overlooked/delisted by every other club while the reigning premiers pick up tom lynch for free.

How dare they give such a massive leg up to the bottom sides I say.

Well his worth a pick 18-23 that’s what his worth. Crows screwed him over anyway, not like they will be getting unders for him. Most Crows supporters here will agree his worth a pick in that range anyway.

We told them we don't need a PP, they then proceeded to beg us to apply for one for the remainder of the year only to not give one to us.

Why the bloody hell ask Carlton to apply if you are going to reject it anyway? Doesn't really matter to us if we got one or not as I am sure we wouldn't be planning on it.

I think you severally overestimate the intelligence level of this mob, most of them seem to think pick 12 wouldn't have been enough they wanted pick 1 lol. Town full of collingwood supporters, just ignore them/wave and smile.
