Autopsy GC Suns V Roos - Rd 2, 2021

It’s hard to just blame the performance on the rebuild when the kids played fine and it was senior players in Atley, Tyson, Polec who were terrible.

The 2018 offseason where we hunted Gaff and instead landed Polec, Hall, Tyson and Campbell is going to bite us on the ass for years.
Brad and Joyce royally f’ed us and the fact both we’re gone not even 6 months after signing those players was unforgivable. Catastrophic trading.
Disastrous list management.
Call it what you want but both can fu** right off.

I was thinking of Brads tenure and can only think what a wasted 10 years it was.
Just shithouse.
That is a sign that the rebuild is the right thing to do, as well as potentially working. Twelve were culled and others were kept contractually. Last night was gack with signs of much better.

The troubling thing about last nights match is that there's so little that can be taken out of it.

We really do need to apply to the AFL to not have any Qld matches in the first 6 rounds of the season. These are terrible conditions for football.
Or at least not during the evening. How its still going ahead and we are generally the team that plays them away each year is beyond a joke

Whatever. Typical hysterical overstatement.

😂😂😂

I presume you're one of the ones that think being a "pressure" player is enough.

Turner is the epitome of a wasted disposal player. Thankfully on the AFL app you can go back and watch each disposal a player gets. Once that is available for last night I urge you to go back and watch how unimaginative and wasteful his disposal can be.

And yet everyone on here acts like he's a gun. He is far from it. He's more 2020 Puopolo than 2014 Puopolo as a defensive forward.

When was the last time we played half decent football in that sh1t hole?

It throws out the start of our season every ****ing year we get drawn to play there.

Blaming the AFL for fixturing when the Swans just kicked 20 odd goals in a wet SE Qld night game last week is really just a sad attempt at trying to deflect away from how bad we are.

He was our best forward last night, period, so you'd wanna ditch 5-6 others before him.

Majority of us were calling for a rebuild.

We’re TWO games in!

This is part and parcel of an early rebuild! I get it’s hard (real hard) to watch but hang in there folks! I for one had had a gutful of being in no man’s land!

Bring on the early draft picks and hope like hell our recruiting team are up to the challenge!

And don’t bother reading or watching any media football related content this year! It will make for a much pleasant year!
Oh that's easy. We didn't give Shaw enough support, he won't answer the phone if it's Glenn, Brady or bang bang Boomer. We paid a Kings ransom for an under performing Polec and never landed a big fish. Our sponsorship from Spirit of Tasmania is a certain sign we are relocating, especially after Ben Amarfio buys a holiday house in Hobart. James Brayshaw failed to produce the white knights and how on earth were we allowed to have an elephant run the wing at Arden St! A total disgrace that K.Greig won a second Brownlow when it soooooo should have gone to K.Bartlett and, if we relocated to the Gold Coast, then we would be flying. Simples.

Its horrible and it takes time to adjust to those conditions. Gold coast train in it and they were even sloppy at times, fumbling and s**t. The monsoon game should have been enough for the AFL to perhaps ponder to themselves ...

Because the Swans never got an easy ride?

Will the club survive it?!

They cut the list too deeply too quickly.
As I said it's not all positives. I tend to agree we could have been a tad more prudent and I'm not sure why Tyson, Hall and Campbell were kept over others. Just pay them out. None belong on an AFL list.
We're all in on Rawlings' plan.
Is it a good plan? Maybe. Makes sense in theory. But do we know for sure? Absolutely not.
Scotts and Joyces thought they had a great plan too. An over arching legacy.
My fingers are crossed that this isn't all for nought.
I was young when North last won a flag... I'm starting to think I won't see another one and that's a tad depressing!

AFL 2021: Kangaroos in turmoil as Gold Coast sends them to the cleaners with first-half rout
It’s fair to say Kangaroos coach David Noble has inherited the toughest job in the AFL after his players dished up a dismal, spiritless performance on the road.

Greg Davis

Noah Anderson emerged from the shadow of Suns teammate and best friend Matt Rowell to lead the Gold Coast to a 59-point thrashing of a woeful North Melbourne at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.

Anderson — the No. 2 draft pick behind the injured Rowell in 2019 — had 18 disposals by halftime to set-up the win with the Suns booting nine goals to North Melbourne’s two by the main break.

The silky midfielder finished with 35 touches, 13 contested possessions, seven clearances and three inside 50s as he oozed class all night.

He had had plenty of assistance. Especially from Jack Lukosius in the pivotal first half when he took a sensational pack mark and converted his set shot, had three scoring assists, three inside 50 entries and 13 touches.

Touk Miller, Lachie Weller, Jack Bowes, Sam Collins, Brandon Ellis and Ben King were also highly influential for the vastly superior Suns.

The victory came at a cost with Gold Coast key forward Sam Day carried from the field with a knee injury at halftime. Young Suns defender Connor Budarick also suffered a knee injury in the fourth term.

The match was all but over just before halftime when the Suns led by 50 points with six unanswered goals in the second quarter before a Bailey Scott major late in the term stopped the rot for the Roos who trailed by 44 points at the main break.

The Gold Coast simply blew the sluggish and largely insipid Roos off Metricon Stadium with their superior ball movement proving too much. In stark contrast, a haphazard North Melbourne butchered far too much ball with their sloppy and wasteful forward entries.
The Suns should have been further in front after wasting a handful of golden scoring opportunities in front of goal as they had their way with for an uncompetitive North Melbourne.
The Kangaroos put up more of a fight in the third term with the Gold Coast looking tired after a six-day break following the hard-fought loss to West Coast last Sunday.

But it was far too little, far too late. When the game was there to be won, North offered nothing. When the Suns looked gassed, they failed to capitalise.
* Genuine speed has always been a priceless asset in football and that’s is especially the case in 2021 after recent rule changes.

New Sun Oleg Markov has given the Gold Coast some serious dash. On more than a number of occasions, Markov was almost a red blur across the Metricon Stadium turf. His first goal in Suns’ colours after a sweeping movement up the field was the highlight.

* Stuart Dew’s positional changes to key young guns is working a treat. Jack Lukosius shifting from halfback to a wing and Noah Anderson moving from the wing to the midfield paid serious dividends against the Roos.

Their class shone like a beacon as they owned the Sherrin and used it beautifully as they were the driving forces in the critical first half.

* When North Melbourne’s Ben Buckley declared in November that he expected new senior coach David Noble to have the Kangaroos contending for a top four berth in three years, the football world raised its collective eyebrow.

The footy world’s whole head would be shaking at that statement now with Buckley’s ambition getting well ahead of his club’s ability. At this rate, the Kangas will be lucky to beat anybody in 2021.

The very astute Noble has the toughest job in the AFL.

* Last week, Collingwood was being mocked in some circles after Jaidyn Stephenson had 30-plus touches in a standout debut for his new club North Melbourne.
Pies supporters would have been dishing out a bit of “we told you so” after Stephenson went missing for large chunks of time when the Suns were dominating.

It requires someone with BALLS to step up and state the facts about that s**t hole, and the NMFC hasn't had anyone with that capability for close to 20 ****ing years.

At least we fought it out. Young, Bonar, Corr, McKay all good, backline is gelling pretty well.

Midfield balance is off, need Cunnington obviously but missing Dumont more than most realise. Jed close to our most important player, Powell and Lazzaro great signs. Anyone else think Bailey Scott isn’t quite tracking as we’d hoped? Maybe being too harsh. Want him to stay invoked though - he really drifts out of games.

Simpkin disappointing so far this year. Not Stevos day, nor Polecs.LDU solid enough.

Turner is a gem, I do not give a fu** what anyone says, if you don’t rate what he brings you know fu** all about football. Walker tries but needs to be phased out. TT building nicely.

At least we fought it out I guess. Hard to watch at times but what can we do but trust the process?
Turner had 1 tackle for the night - this from the guy who can provide zero offensive threat also provides next to zero defensive tackling.

There's people who know fu** all about football on this site and if you think Turner 'is a gem' then you are clearly one of them.

The good news is that a few draft watchers reckon Phillips was on a par with this bloke as an underage player.

Was out tonight and just watched on delay.

Our skills are putrid. ******* putrid.

We need to pull a gun key forward out of our arse. We've got no presence down there at all.

You know you're struggling when your best players are all from the backline.

Young talent wise we are miles off Gold Coast, probably 3 drafts worth.

It's going to be a long year.
Pity there wasn’t a key forward available at our pick in the last draft heh?

Interesting post match interview. Basically said the effort/energy for the first half just wasn't good enough, and that what caused the turn around in the third wasn't the positional changes he made but mostly just the players putting the effort in.

Of note Mahoney was again mentioned by name as one of those promising young developing players, a fact which will probably give a few blokes here an aneurism. He also went out of his way to compliment JZ on being a tough bastard and coming back on, and then at the end of the presser some big (and completely unprompted by the media) compliments for Jed to which some nuffy said "Yeah we probably should have mentioned the positives".

There was a good comparison made to his time at Brisbane. Reporter commented that we don't look nearly as uncompetitive as Brisbane did in those days. When asked if it was comparable in terms of just looking for small gains Noble surprised me a bit with how emphatic he was on us trying to win. The vibe I've gotten from him most of the time is his emphasis on learning and sticking to the gameplan, so it was nice to hear.
Hard to stick to a game plan it appears no one knows anything about.

Reckon he was a bit tough on Stephenson. He spent large chunks down forward, almost as a full forward. That's why he went missing.

Saw some improvement from last week, and some improvement during the game (more intensity in the third, more composure in the fourth)

It's bloody hard to watch. I'm so friggin drained from looking for positives during the game that as soon as the siren goes I can't switch it off quick enough.

They just look like a team learning a new system and trying hard to stick with it, even while the results are awful. If we stick at it and keep improving I still think we'll win a few games in the second half of the season.

I'm looking forward to next week, but trying to shake the feeling of not wanting to go to the ground.

Would be bad for the club if the crowd is really poor. I guess the most practical thing we can do for our club right now is turn up.

If we get a record crowd during this period it will shove it right back in the face of all those hovering vultures.

Record crowd?

There will be lucky to be 25k there Friday - and the majority of that will be Dog's supporters - that is why Armafio sent out an email this week to 'encourage' us to show up.

Neutral's and fair weather supporters aren't going to put in the effort to attend when they can see the North players are just going through the motions, not giving a rat's whether they lose by 10 goals or 5 goals, happy to blurt out the 'we are rebuilding...results don't matter to us' line.

People want to watch a competitive match - not a VFL side v an AFL side - which is what this will be.

Bonar, Young and Corr were all good down back.
Tom Powell and Jed were good in the guts.
Tarryn Thomas and Bailey Scott were good through the wings and half fwd.
LDU is playing bruise free footy and needs to lift his intensity. We know he has the tools to be a gun.
Need Froggy and McDonald back in asap

If supporters dont turn up, they only have themselves to blame. Get in there and support the kids, not really about footy on that day.

^^ this ^^
almost criminal that his effort last night can be singled out, 2 goals of the 5 resulted from his graft and another was the result of a a lovely pass from bis own boot, this for a combined total of 5 goals, he may not kick a lot of goals but his forward pressure is the avenue a lot of our scoring comes from.

Sorry but based on our current forward stocks that really ain’t saying much...
may be the case but dropping the only bloke having a crack is a very poor precident,

Larkey was putrid last night, on a couple of occasions resembles richo in body language, sure he got a few ordinary passes but he hardly toiled to break better than 50/50, compare that to king at the other end who was relatively well held by McKay and still worked his way into contests to get the advantage. he got a silver service delivery from jaiden where he just needed to stick the dukes out and couldnt even glove that.

Zurhaar was just lazy in the first half and moving him back at least meant he had to be accountable , so you can see that the players have the ability, just when they choose when to apply themselves.
