Hansen, O'Loughlin and Lalor coaching Bacchus Marsh. Very hard to replace Paul Baker but it would seem that the Marsh are handing some responsibility to some younger players. Sounds like good leadership and management to me. Sound move by a new committee to manage getting 80 players a game of cricket.

Interesting move, sounds like they got caught out a bit, either leaving their run too late or struggled to get applicants. Might be a case of too many cooks......

Might see betting on the marsh float out further.
United are very much like Geelong of 2007, very short in the betting and for good reason. A side built around two quality cricketers with lots of able cricketers. Cant see these guys missing a top two spot, especially if the comp takes on an increase in two day cricket.

I do believe a couple of woodends biggest names of the past decade are considering a move 'up the calder' to play mcintyre this year. Make that the 'old' calder. Will bat 1 and 5 and strenthen the team big time.

Where are they heading? Gisborne?
Are Grumont and Lethborg going to stay at Gisborne now that Harmon is a confirmed non starter or are they still heading to Macedon?

Ashfield Cricket Club Has appointed Andy Hale as Captain/Coach for this season pre season started Sunday and had 18 players which was a good sign. The club is looking at having 3 teams this year(1st time for 13 years)
Any interested players Training is at Boardman Reserve Sunbury Every sunday at the nets

Leigh Brennan... I remember him from Rupertswood, his brother is a gun, Ben Brennan, handy all rounder!! Bowls like a Glen McGrath and Bats like a right handed Matty Hayden.
Good to see Ashfield get some good numbers, also having a new coach can only be good for a club on the up.
Has anyone heard the lastest regarding 10 team comp??

Leigh spoke of a brother who might come with him sounds like good pick ups for the cats.

Sorry Parkcricketer, I should have qualified the statement better. I am suggesting he could have been the equivalent of a McGrath in our comp, bowling the top of off stump and a well regarded batsman.
It’s like saying Steve Grey is the Jacques Kallis of the GDCA. Killer all-rounder, with the numbers to back to it up. Doesnt mean i think he should be playing test cricket.

To be honest, I am surprised you didn’t pick up on this. Did you think I actually thought he is of the ability playing test cricket??:(

D&$# H$)*

Only gonna be an 8 team comp Chinese.
Re: Ben Brennan - McGrath/Hayden comparison - not a bad rap for a bloke who has gone no further then the GDCA!!!!

From what I can make out, it seems as though Rupertswood has lost all it's genuine pace bowlers the last few years. Will some clubs feast on their medium pacers?

Apart from Kevvy who could be quick on his day, who did Rupo ever have that was quick???
For a long time now they have relied on there military mediums. If their Pom doesn't come back their bowling relies alot on Boffey, and he does wobble it abit (some say there is more wobble in his run up then his bowling)
Not many out and out quicks in the comp anymore. In fact with Wadden still not sure he will be bowling there isn't anyone to make batsmen tremble. Most sides rely on medium pacers who can hit the spot and get it too do a little.

I have memories of facing up to Lane, Brennan brothers and Kev a few years ago and having no rest. Got a few bruises around the ribs and hit in the grill as well. Lucky I had a helmet. It was relentless.

Angler - you must be a little older then me. I've faced Kev but the Brennans had left and by the time I came across big Laney he was getting on a bit and obviously been in a good paddock!!!
Some of the older blokes at the club reckoned he had some zip back in his day though!!!!

Morning Gents,

Just been having a look at the Calender, looks like the season will have to start on the 2nd of October and at some stage there may have to be a 2 day game played sat/sun due to both Christmas and new years day falling on Saturdays.

any official word from the league about fixturing??
