Hi guys,
I'm new to these forums and to the Geelong area or will be in mid January. I'm looking at finding a club to possibly play at next year depending on recovery from a shoulder injury and possible work commitments. I just wanted to know some thoughts on the standard of the league and what clubs were good as far as culture and would have a young list.

Background on me I'm 23 and played reserves football in the Goulburn Valley Football league last year before injury mid season.

Thanks
Depends on where your living mate, might determine where you play.

Obviously the GFL being the number 1 ranked league in country Victoria makes the league a very high standard and very professional and I'm sure they played the Goulburn Valley a couple of years back in interleague which they won convincingly.

The BFL are clubs based mostly around coastal regions other than Amateurs and Newcomb, having said that a filled with a lot of younger type players and attract a very good following, still most clubs are professional enough and a very high level of skill and fitness needed, so if your into surfing and that sort of culture then that's the league.

The GDFL is of a lower standard, mainly due to fitness levels however still have a relatively high level of skills and football ability. Getting better by the year and sure to improve again. Belmont would be one of the teams with a lot of players in this age group and with Grant Tanner in charge I feel the lions are on the cusp of something exciting. Culture wise Bannockburn I think are a club with a great reputation with plenty of good people at the helm.

You could go on all day about individual clubs, so maybe have a run with a couple and see where both you and the club are at.

I'm sure others will have an opinion on there particular clubs and there strong points.

I would think Bell Post Hill would have to come into consideration.Played in the last 8 Grand Finals and won five. May have lost 3 quality players but won this years GF comfortably and will have at least 3 very good replacements. Keep in mind their capatin didn't play in the GF, Barton had little impact after missing weeks with a foot injury and Rhys Burke also missed the GF. Excellent culture, strong coaching panel and superior fitness.

Yes totally agree just couldn't comment on every team, also depends on footy fan55 and what he wants to do as a footballer, what standard he wants to play and what he wants to achieve but yes BPH are an exceptional club. Very humble too.

So, Senior vs Junior, thought you said this is a GDFL thread only, so under your rules, why are you commenting on GFL and BFL teams and those leagues? Interesting. Also, not a lot of surf in Portarlington, Drysdale, Modewarre and Queenscliff as well as Newcomb and The Golf club.

Milburn signed as playing assistant coach at Banno confirmed by their Facebook page earlier this morning
I'm gonna BOO him for shirt fronting the great SOS Silvagne! Us Carlton crew have long long memories ha ha. Good luck to him and Bannockburn, apparently he is only worth 1 point? how does that work and Bannock must be close to the salary cap with Tom and other recruits ..... ?

im sorry but 1 point is ridiculous just shows that the point system doesnt work already!!! Whats the point it developing juniors for 1 point then??
U just love complaining.
U can have all the 1 pointers u want. Just get retired AFL players to sit out 3 years after retirement then make a comeback as a 38 year old.
Or develop ur juniors. if someone wants to sit out 3 years.. They r 1 point. It just happens this 1 is ex afl so u hav an issue with it

Obviously if someone hasnt played for 3 years. Theres a decent recent. Which is why he'd be worth only one point. In this case is cause he was 35 when he stopped playing footy and with the body in obvious decline will lose a lot of steps. Cant see him wanting to run with any fit machines out there. In saying that milburn will be bery smart for the kids and will clean up zoning off especially against sides that only look to one or two targets

Hi guys new to league living in corio area just seeing if corio worth playing for any feedback on coaches etc
Going to be a young side and the only way is up for them. had a few tough years but got great young kids who need some older heads to help them out and give guidance. Go to training for a couple of weeks is the best way too see if the club suits you.

GDFL should always stay seperate from AFL Barwon as currently structured. The league is lucky to have good, dedicated management from Whitley and co. It is quickly becoming the GFL of 20 years ago with genuine one on one contests and supporter friendly matches.

Sad to see Forrest Footy Club have had to fold today (or have a year off?) , just saw on Krock footy, seems quite early to pull the pin but onto GDFL do you reckon any of the guys will head back to the Cheetahs or is that bridge burnt?
