How are they a disgrace?

Because they got a loan off the league?

Give me a spell GullsFC! The club has helped many of their players with employment over the years and this year had to go down the path of offering junior footballers free memberships because of the GFL powerhouse clubs that surround them poaching their good players.

Belmont will bounce back and yeah maybe they won't win a flag this decade but at least we have won one in the last 9 years which we can still hang our hat on & we have pride in that.

Longyroos plays hard wicket cricket so if he is happy with those little novelty trophies filling up their cabinet then good on him! He probably still believes in Santa Claus & the Easter Bunny.
The first committee meeting for Belmont was a step in the right direction voting out the president.

I think the only real loss so far for Belmont would be Harrison, Mikali's talent is top end and he had to go to the GFL and test himself against the states best players. The Hann's are great blokes and have done a lot of good things at Belmont with their coaching, Al has never been the same since his ACL and Chuky struggles with his shoulder so probably a good thing for both party's to part ways and they are 2 less player payments to have to worry about.

Eugene is another to part ways but he has had 6 football clubs & 4 cricket clubs in 7 years so was never going to hang around too long.

The lions have good people in all their important positions now and they have already been very active in attracting new sponsors and more importantly keeping the current ones on board for 2017.

Hopefully there'll be a bit more news with training beginning to start up. Looking on the clearances Werribee seem to be getting a few blokes in already, any likely to be playing 1s? Also young fella from East Rabbas off to BPH?

Not unexpected as his father coached and played with the Panthers for many years. East just gave his some play money for a year out of juniors

What and he is not getting paid at hill?
Don't know or care what he was paid or will be paid at either club , but it was noted he was an east junior moving to the Panthers, yet he was recruited straight out of the U/18 Newtown juniors(to east for 1 yr)and is now leaving to go to the club where his family history links are strong in local football . I personally hope any payments to any 18 yo are limited ($$playmoney) as their football resume is limited and shouldn't dictate substantial reward

Bit harsh I am just telling the truth. Lucky they have the GDFL to bail them out of mismanagement.
Settle down Leo....ha ha.
Hi Kick it Forward, yes clubs are lucky to get help from the GDFL and it can be embarrassing to ask for help, but Belmont received a pretty small loan whilst waiting for some sponsorship money to come in - which it has. To my knowledge that loan could be paid back tomorrow but will be by round 1.
This is due to the hard work of the new committee who are already getting new sponsors plus keeping the old ones. JETTS Gym have committed to jumper and ground sponsorship for the 4th year which is great news. There is even a dedicated roster of committee, netballers and footy players cooking sausages for the entire Summer outside Anaconda every Sunday, every cent counts these days to run a club, i think that says plenty about the club and the people in it. So get down there for lunch Leo and KIck it Forward (Mathew Long, your not invited, you have gone quiet mate.......wonder why?)

And on a footy note which is what the forum is for, Belmont may have lost Mikali (to try a higher level), Eugene gone to Otway for a good offer, and the Hann Bros to Colac on a good offer too, but they havent really played for 2 years, tho I will miss them. Thats it at this stage, maybe a couple of 2s players that played a game or 2. Leamer, Walsh, Edwards, Edwards, Boal, Watkins plus more all resigned plus Fisher is back. Belmont already have a few handy recruits, Grant Tanner would not be coaching again to finish down the bottom, trust me.

Each club gets an allocation of approx $15k per season (not $50k) which is not just handed out!!
The clubs actually dont see a cent!
This money goes towards infrastructure, upgrades, uniforms, footballs, netballs etc. This all has to be approved by the league prior to spending and all invoicing forwarded to the league before the goods are handed over! To think each club gets $50k is absolutely ludicrous ($600k over 12 clubs????). Not one single player in the GDFL recieves match payments as a result of funding from the league. FACT
What actually does happen and what people think happens could not be any further apart!

I agree that all clubs would struggle without the GDFL but this isn't the first time this has happened at Belmont. They went out and brought footballers then couldn't pay them. I hope the new committee can work to a budget same with Corio as they had to borrow money from the GDFL to pay players.
