What a champion this bloke has been as captain this year. Succeeding one of the greatest players in the history of our club was always going to be a mammoth task, but I'd say pretty much all of us would reckon he's done it with aplomb. His attitude of leaving no man behind and never giving up perfectly embodies what we want to stand for as a club, and every game he does something that would undoubtedly lift the team, whether that be single-handedly stopping a goal on the last line of defence despite being outnumbered, or something like this:

He is like Dempster. Very underrated and a warrior.

He faced a lot of struggles to be what he is today. We could have easily gave the captaincy to someone like Armo or Steven who are much known and popular in the footy world. I appreciate that the club valued leadership over popularity.

Ross, Newnes, Roberton could all learn from him Gears.

Good thread. Him being the catalyst to stop that almost-certain Cripps goal yesterday was massive as well.

Was an interesting choice for captain for a lot of outsiders who didn't know what he could bring to the table.
Not the obvious showy type but there'd be no one out there who could deny that we made the right choice with Gears.

I think we learned a lot about leadership last night.
Geary is the kind of captain you want.

Was a strong believer from early days on the rookie list. I must admit a couple of years ago I did start to think he'd be overtaken.

To his credit he's taken his game to another level. Very good start to his captaincy and it's going a bit unnoticed.

I am so proud of our Captain.
I would follow him over the trenches any day.

He has won or at least halved so many contests he has had no right to this year in particular. He may not be the most flashy, and many outsiders probably wouldn't notice him much, but his style of leadership would definitely be inspirational to the players.

Not surprised he's doing a great job as captain, he's always been a great on field leader with the way he puts his body on the line and gives 100%.

No doubt it inspires the rest of the team to go in hard and never give up when their captain is leading by example like Geary does.
