Yes my friend in terms of the TOTAL game aspect you are right however this is the Geary Thread.

I was just posting something on the GEARY thread relating to ONE incident where HE WAS under NO PRESSURE and due to a lack of focus DROPPED THE BALL. My comment was to highlight he needs to grab his chance by trying to stay focused especially when under no PRESSURE.

I understand your point, but I think if you believe one error like that is going to cost him a spot in the team you are an awfully hard marker.

Sometimes we are too quick to correct someone, or misinterpret things, but please don't make this site Saintsational-like in emotion.

By all means defend yourself, but try not to take a sledgehammer to a fly - a rolled up newspaper does nicely. If you are real creative you can get the chopsticks out.

Now, back to Geary - I seem to recall we were talking about him two panels back. How long has he been playing for Saints/Scorps - it hasn't been long has it?

Apologies for the tangent on this thread gang. I'm all for debate just can't stand petty name calling. Should we start a poll on what round Jarryn will gain a rising star nomination? :D

And I can't stand posters stating things which another poster has not said and when proven incorrect are not man enough to acknowledge it.

Anyway, moving forward:

The Saints are entering an exciting period where the young guys like Geary, Arma etc etc will not only going give us depth but provide pressure on the total list.

Unlike Melbourne we have a number of young guys that will drive our success in the future if they are given the game time to do so (i.e. do not drop them if they stuff up 1,2, or 10 times).

One of my negatives on Thomas was that Gwilt ( who I'm a great fan of) was only used late in the season when we had injuries and was never given the chance to learn his craft properly. He came into games where he was not accustom to the pace and asked to prove himself. Thomas killed that guys career. I think we will never have the chance to see his best with the next wave of young guns coming through.

For all the young guys, when they get their chance at senior level they need to remember its not a right to play but a priveledge so they should take it IN BOTH HANDS, try and focus 100% and not take any Possession FOR GRANTED (i.e. drop easy marks ) and they will forge their own career

Geary has and will continue to come a long way in the team - we need him - and if given the time develop into a strong rebounding HBF
 
I'm not sure about Gwilt. Poor disposal by AFL standards. Not sure you can blame Grant Thomas for his progress. Gwilt had a very good chance last year to cement a spot with all our injuries. Unfortunley does not seem to be up to the task.
 
I personally know the Geary family, and there are a few more to come that can play footy. One in particular is also a brilliant cricketer. Another just made the u18 pioneers team and there are twins also to come. One of which is a state swimming champion for his age, 16. Could this be another dynasty of brothers to come out of Bendigo like the Selwoods, early days yes i know, but a definite one to watch for the Rising Star if he holds the standard he displayed on the weekend. His family came into the rooms after the game and are quietly reserved about it all. Jarryn deserves to do well, has had to put on a lot of weight to play at this standard, and has worked and focused on his goals. Go Saints.

Fingers crossed Geary backs it up this week against Carlscum.

This kid I think could be a real gem. And lets not focus on one dropped mark... There were a few guilty senior players in the last quarter guilty of the same thing.

-The cricketer and TAC player are the same person played 3 or 4 games last year as an u16.
-another has been forced to retire after his 3rd knee surgery played TAC cup went to draft camp and played a few AFL reserves games when it wasnt VFL,
-another is on the VFL list of bendigo in his 3 rd year after returning from a knee injury played in the twos on the weekend and did ok should play bendigo ones this week,
all can play cricket too. all play cricket the same.

-Just think the Kid(jarryn) is only 19 with a full season at or with 10 or so games in the ones, he will be an exciting player hasnt played in the back line for very long normally forward or centre. to do with the pressure where he dropped it lol not every player takes every mark even the best drop marks when no one is around b'cos the think ive got it and are thinking of wat they are going to do after the mark. im sure when u watch saints Vs blues this weekend another player will be free and will drop it. might be geary but could be roo or anyone fraser anyone so it doesnt just mean a first gamer isnt concentrating just means that he is thinking bout wat he is going to do after his got the ball. 1 game 1 drop mark 9marks 21 touches and close to nomination to rising star. i think the coach will take that not a bad debut wonder how many player who debut dont get over 10touches and the effiemcy isnt aroun th 90% mark or on the ground for 97% of the game. and im sure any player would be pretty happy with those stats. i know i'm happy with a saint getting 21touches as a backline player????? anyone else happy if he keeps getting 21touches a game as a 19yr old.???

Was talking to Jarryn this week and he already has his date lined up for the Brownlow, gees these boys think ahead, or apparently his mother is thinking ahead, yep he is on a promise to dear old ma to take her to the first one he attends. lol, cant get better than that, Mum still controls the apron strings. Good on her.

lol didnt have much more to say bout him spot on state swimmer not a bad tennis player either, not like the other boys not into footy much doesnt mind watching them play tho see him at saints game last week
