Another observation from last night. Our ability to defend the outside of a clearance was TERRIBLE last night.
Essendon were able to handball out of clearance to free players with space way too easily.

I feel, had we brought that performance and played the Doggies last night, we would have received a 100 point flogging.

In the last when Essendon kicked a goal from a stoppage in their forward 50, Stanley spent the walk back to the centre square talking with Smith about his positioning at those types of stoppages and his need to be more defensively aware

I think with Smith joining Holmes in the middle and the continued development of our overall running power (Dempsey, Mannagh, Neale replacing Hawkins, etc, etc), we now have a gameplan and style that is more suited to wide open space than the narrow ground at home. Good for our prospects on the MCG in September, even if it means our home ground advantage ain't what it used to be.

It's a really good point I hadn't really considered.

I hope it proves correct in the finals!

This massive media beat up on the 100 goals irks me, and Jezza as well from his interviews.
That many graphs and charts and replays of Buddy etc, and Longmire kicking 2.8 trying to get there.
For a possibility- It's too much too soon, and too far out.
They risk embarrassing themselves, but when has that ever stopped the media?
Commentators on board with the the kick it to Jezza BS, every time.

Apologies, no player reviews this week. Come down with something awful yesterday (negative on a COVID test, thank goodness) and slept through the game, I only woke up half an hour ago. I feel like I've been hit by a truck. Sounds like I didn't miss much of a game though, but I'm glad we got some more game time into Knev and Clark.

I think we should have run SDK through the ruck more this year. I mean he towelled up Luke Jackson this season. I also think it would have helped his defence play too. I don’t think he is enjoying his football at the moment.

After reflecting on last night again i think one of the major things that really frustrated me watching was the over use of handballs and the reluctance to kick down the line, always looking in the centre or for the switch instead of using free men, the amount of times we cornered ourselves because we just wanted to handball was crazy, Bowes especially was shocking at this.
