The problem I have found with Eagles supporters is you can start off having a decent conversation and then they drop in to the old, boring premiership crap.
You should bring up Freo's premierships when that happens.

Fair enough. Was he ok last night or struggling?

Mixed. Laid some good tackles, had good physical pressure on his opponents and provided some rebound off half back. But also missed a relatively easy shot on goal and punched Suban on the chin.

You mean when the Geelong fans started trumpeting the "we beat everybody" line?
We beat everyone to the premiership as every team does when they win a flag. Ironical that the hawks catchphrase back then was "if you don't beat us in a home and away game then your flag is irrelevant". Talk about a bunch of hypocrites.

I love watching them play, and have more than a healthy respect for them.

I don't love Selwood's ducking, Chris Scott's incessant sooking, and I don't love the armchair ride they've been given over the past 2 weeks. The latter is hardly their fault though.
And despite that two week armchair ride hawthorn has still had a better ride with the umps this year. Must make you feel conflicted.

Selwood is generally running off with the ball when the free kick is called.

In contrast, for example, I saw Suban drop to get a high tackle a few times tonight. That stuff is all for the free kick because they can't do something useful after they drop.

Selwood draws the high contact as part of escaping the tackle. Easy solution would be for the umpire to not call it and let him play football.
The continuous Suban diving to the turf last night was pathetic. Selwood always stays on his feet.

It's amazing that the game day match thread was locked due to the sour grapes of Fremantle fans whinging and whining about the umpires? The facts are Freo played for 1 QTR and almost pinched the game, Geelong won it and with that win Dockers fans have finally realised they are not as good as last year and will struggle to beat Hawthorn next week and have absolutely no chance against the Swans come finals time. The expected fall by Geelong hasn't happened and some fans are a little miffed about it, last year's loss to Freo in the finals was supposed to signify the end, but the team has been re-building without the collapse accompanying it. Opposition fans wanted to see a St.Kilda like fall from grace. I'm the first to admit the Cats are not up to the level of both Hawthorn and the Swans, but they have given themselves every chance of upsetting the apple cart by finishing top four and that is all you can ask of a footy club that is re-building. They have done a lot better than i thought in 2014.
Never trust anyone who wants what you've got. Friend or no, envy is an overwhelming emotion and envy is the art of counting the other fellow's blessings instead of your own. The Dockers have been envious of the 'evil empire' called West Coast for years and now it seems everybody else who has had success.
Fremantle fans are getting impatient, they are seeing the dream slip away.

freo are as good as last year. same time last year didn't they lose to geelong by 40+ at skilled? ross lyon is known for his using the regular season to get his players conditioned for finals. come finals time freo will be just as good as last year. geelong have fallen further from last year than freo. if freo can nearly beat geelong only playing 1 good quarter, imagine what they can do if they string 4 together, which they will do come finals time.

Freo will tell you half the team was out when they last played Geelong in the H&A at Simonds. And if Lyon is flirting with form at this stage of the year to get his team primed for the finals he is a bigger fool than I thought. Doesn't he want a home final in week 1? Does he even want a top 4 finish? Of course he does

Only a Collingwood supporter could start this thread.
Bombers are currently on a lot of peoples shit lists
But the Pies are the number one most disliked team in the comp.

It's not that different, Thomas wouldn't be so hated if he didn't play for North.

It is different. I agree that Thomas gets more criticism then he deserves, but Selwood is one of Geelongs greatest captains. Regardless of whether he plays for free kicks, there is a distinct skill level difference between Selwood and Thomas.

I don't overly mind Selwoods high contacts. Many Geelong supporters are right in saying he is constantly on the move and looking to play on. Shuey tries it as well with the elbow raise to have the arm slip up, he's not as strong so gets caught a bit more often. I don't understand why more players don't do it to be honest. You can complain or join them.

What I was truly peeved at last night was the simple buckling at the knees. Johnsons one where Crowley ran at him a prime example. There's no way you can get any lower or do any better then what Crowley did, yet he is pinged because one just ducks and makes no attempt to escape the tackle. This happened way too many times and I wouldn't be surprised if it was an instruction because we do tackle hard and have taller mids.

Also the free kick tally will always be against us because most frees would be for high contact and our mids are all fairly tall, plus we ain't the types to duck into tackles, instead preferring to get the hands above the head and release the ball that way.

What I can't also stand for is what Johnson did when he grabbed Sutcliffe and then took a dive to win a free kick that resulted in a goal.

I've said elsewhere that it was worse then what Lyndsay Thomas did but got no airtime, therefore seeming like a non issue.

Should be fined for that.

All in all Geelong won, but wouldn't be overly happy with that performance considering home ground advantage Pav and Ballas no influence and Fyfe with one arm, Hill rolled ankle early and 16 more free kicks.

Think Freo supporters despite the loss would come out feeling better longer term.

I used to like watching the Cats play but now all that success seems to have bred arrogance and an entitlement mentality. There were a couple of occasions last night, when came in marginally late and it could have been a 50m penalty, but the cats player just pointed and told the ump that they'll take the 50 and went to trot off. Luckily the ump called them back but it should have been play on for stepping over the mark
