This isn't 2007 any more

Not bitter, we couldn't beat you guys 3 times you deserved it. I saw a flag and I'm very lucky and grateful.

What I didn't like is leaving with a minute to go, and having Geelong supporters abuse me saying some disgusting things for no reason, you had it won just be gracious.

Never had any issues with any supporters even at Carlton games, I cheer and that's about it, I know a few Geelong supporters there is one bloke who isn't cocky and arrogant, and he has stopped going to games because the Geelong supporters do his head in.

Bigfooty has not changed my opinion on majority of Geelong supporters.

Nailed it

Tall poppy syndrome.

Look at this umpiring decision on Friday night. Troy Menzel took a dive in front of goal and the EXACT same thing happened as Christensen's, the non-officiating umpire from 50m called it a free, which turned into a shot on goal. I haven't heard the Menzel one mentioned once post match, yet the uproar over Christensen's is enormous.

What's the difference? Only timing. Those who get roped by media idiots in believing that 1 free kick (of 46 paid on the night) has such a huge impact on 2 hours of football are just gullible idiots who don't know a thing about the sport.

Once again, Geelong won and the masses didn't get to see an underdog win. Oh. Didums. Poor old pathetic Carlton fail again... Sad, so sad.

Perfect, rational and totally correct. Not something you see often on this forum.

The mass hysteria that has recently been surrounding Geelong, and the increase in petty hatred is nothing short of bewildering.

I think it is the way Chris Scott carries on from the coaches box. I sometimes feel like I want to get into the TV and punch the loser in the nose. I am not a violent person and I don't like violence. But it drives me nuts when he carries on like that. I hate them just for this reason alone. I must say I admired them when a humble Bomber was coaching (with a sandwich in his hand).

I assume you're joking. A lot of people would still say that it is the most arrogant thing they've ever seen by a coach during a game.

Geel have to be admired, because they just keep getting the job done over the course of 22 h&a games, a true testament to their discipline and professionalism. The problem for them is tho that just like 2012 & 2013, they will get a very good return from the h&a season this year but realistically enter the finals with no chance of winning the flag

I think most Geelong fans would've been pretty happy going into the season if you told them that they'd be a better chance of winning the flag than at least 14 teams. If we're good enough we'll win it and if we're not good enough we won't.

And I agree, putting ourselves in an ideal position for finals really is a "problem". I mean how dumb can we be? It looks like it's going to be 7 times in 8 seasons now that we'll be getting a qualifying final in our home state. Scott clearly hasn't learned his lesson about not giving us this problem. I reckon he should be sacked.

Why no chance of winning the flag?

That's unfortunate and you have every right to be mad about it. Same thing has happened to me at Collingwood games - funny thing is, I'm never actually leaving, I'm just going to get a beer, yet Pies fans still get stuck in. I go to lots of Pies games and there's plenty of great ones and plenty of horrid ones - don't think you can generalise a whole fanbase on one incident.

If we were hating footy clubs based on what the corresponding Bigfooty posters were like I'd hate every single club!

I think the "hate" of Geelong rings louder in the Bigfooty echo chamber. Only here where hysteria breeds do people constantly rave about Geelong having the better run with the MRP (hah!) and umpires. It doesn't bother me personally but I do have to laugh at people so embittered that they can't enjoy watching champions like Bartel play. It'd be like me going to a Hawks game and slagging off Hodge - sure, he basically took a flag off us, it doesn't mean I hate him. It means he's good. I wish more fans could see things that way, on all sides.

I don't get the Chris Scott hate.
He's as humble a person as you will ever meet, never attacks a player/club/umpire/media person etc, always gives credit to opposition teams and players, talks down any hype about the Cats and tells the truth.
What I keep hearing is people hate the fact he is a fan of AFL and passionate about his club.
Like everyone else....
Do Pie supporters hate seeing eddie cheer and carry on?
What about the hawks watching Jeff go off his tree watching the game?
What about the other 90,000 people at big games?
What about themselves?
Funnily enough players and coaches are first and foremost FANS of the game and will act like it.
It may be different if after acting like he does he comes out and slams the umpires or a player or whatever but he doesn't.

Totally agree, I find it weird that people say they hate Chris Scott for doing pretty much exactly the same things they do when they watch the footy. So he shows some emotion in the coaches box, all the coaches do to some extent. Don't we all show emotion when our side kicks a goal, or is robbed by the umpies, or a player gets manhandled etc.

CS is a very humble bloke and I have never heard him moan and complain like Brad has in the past. Really, some of the posts/reasons in this thread are just beyond stupid.

I think the mistaken belief is that every time he goes off it's because of umpiring. While he DOES do that occasionally, most times it's clearly about how our team is performing. Watch his reaction in the box at Kelly giving away the ridiculous goal in the square last week. This is the main source of his box-freakouts but people just assume that it's always due to umpiring. He never blames umpiring in his pressers. He's quite understanding of their difficult job. I think he gets unfairly lopped in with his brother, too.

Don't we all do that though? To say you hate someone because they demonstratively disagreed with an umpires decision during a match means you should hate every other person at the game including yourself. Didn't the Carlton supporters and Mick Malthouse go spare after the free kick to Bundy last week? How is that any different to something you may see Chris Scott do in the heat of the moment? There's a lot of hypocrisy round here.

Who should we "hate" more - a coach who admits he doesn't care if a camera is focused on him in the coaches box and who is prepared to wear his heart on his sleeve OR a grumpy prick of a coach who sticks paper on the glass so the TV cameras can't see him? A coach who ALWAYS makes himself available to the media, never shirks responsibility or avoids hard questions, and is very articulate in his responses OR a coach who talks in cliches or has little of interest to say?

Chris Scott is refreshing as a coach.

So you're basing your opinion on the "majority of Geelong supporters" based on a few isolated incidents?

And there would have been dozens of Pies fans abusing Saints fans leaving early the year before and Hawks fans abusing Cats fans the year before that. Every club has bad fans.

There's no one on the Geelong team I dislike. There's one in the coaches box though.

I think he has a hard time seperating the coaching gig from his playing days. Gets carried away like any other supporter, but ever since his emphatic reaction to the close win in his first game, the camera has spent more time on him in the box than any other coach I think.
