That's pretty outstanding consistency - even though this current iteration doesn't seem nearly as strong as the group of players that took out 3 flags.

Certainly its been a good period to be a Cats supporter - its unlikely you'll ever experience a better period (especially as the number of teams gets larger).

Some of Geelong's players have around 80% win rate over hundreds of games which is pretty insane. I think Mackie had one of the best records from memory (too lazy to check). Selwood might be the one with the best record - 2007 was a good year to debut.

On the brink of 9 top 4 finishes over the last 11 seasons, thoughts? Unprecedented performance?
Certainly a great effort for this day and age but can't call it unprecedented, Collingwood alone have bettered that 3 different times:

20 times in 22 years 1901-1922
14 times in 15 years 1925-1939
10 times in 11 years 1964-1974

I think Carlton and Hawthorn also have eras with longer streaks.

Slightly easier to do back then without the equilisation of the draft.

True. I'll say during the AFL era. Has any side done it before?

In regards to VFL instead of top 4 what about top 25%? 12 teams top 4 was the top third, AFL is 16-18 clubs, which is a quarter or less.

Hawks did it 7 times for 4 premierships in that same period... I know which set of stats Id prefer.
You'd take the 4 flags, but in reality it was a quarter of football where the underdogs found some luck. Compared to two entire years of not finishing top 4.

Hawthorn were really lucky to achieve what they did.

You make your own luck. If you think it was majority luck you're just a typical sour grape Geelong fan.
2008 is a myth... we outplayed you on the day and we won, tough.

Yep,it's a great effort and you are correct-the current team is light years behind the flag teams. Still lots of fun though. Grateful to have seen such stuff, very lucky.

You are right. The current team isnt a shadow of the 2007-11 team yet here we are.

Impressive. Even more so with the current list. No real forward line, success off the back of basically 2 players.. unfortunately for Geelong supporters I don't think they pose any real threat this year and most teams would be licking their lips to play Geelong in a grand final if you guys manage to get that far.. But they still sit up (near) the top of the ladder. Impressive.

That is true. I mean Harry Taylor kicking bags? How shit must the opposition be for that to happen?

Exactly. That's what's impressive about it imo. I don't know many teams that could have geelongs list and be top 4.

I mean seriously do you guys even have a forward line?

I don't rate the coach either so god knows how you guys are doing it. Must be good leadership from the leadership group imo demanding of each other.

I don't think you will go far come finals, but never the less what has been achieved with this list so far this year is still impressive.
