I'd have Buddy at number 3. Dunstall and Hudson at 1 and 2. Brereton has a case for 3 or 4. I'd have Ablett Snr at 5 - I guess that's why we let him go

I can only assume your calling Matthews a midfielder?I'd have Buddy at number 3. Dunstall and Hudson at 1 and 2. Brereton has a case for 3 or 4. I'd have Ablett Snr at 5 - I guess that's why we let him go
Dunstall, Matthews, Brereton, Buckenara, Ablett ...... that would have been the greatest forward line in history.
The other Hawthorn forward who often gets overlooked, and only played till 83 was Moncrieff. Terrific player.
Think I'll that forward line without Ablett.
Phenomenal highlights package (best ever), but p1ss poor team player.
Yeh' same crap most Ablett haters sprout aloud!
Was a very good team player if you are talking goal assists (80's Ablett) and sticking up for teammates but off the field, perhaps he let his teammates down but you and I never knew the man so can't give opinions on that but as for games, we have that on film to study and analyze.
Wouldn't consider myself an 'Ablett-hater'- I consider him the #3 GOAT behind only Lethal and The King.
As counter-intuitive as it seems, I know it was a good thing for my club when he left post-1982. What made us great throughout that era is at odds with what he possesses, despite his unparalleled talent. And I base that on conversations and relationships I've had with people in AFL circles better placed than most to judge.
Each to their own though.
Your saying his absence was better for Hawthorn.
I think he would have pushed out someone like Curran or Morrissey and averaged 70 goals per year on a half forward flank.
Geelong 2007, 2009 and 2011 would be Hawthorn 2014.

2007:Geelong was better in 2011 than 2007.
Ive got no idea what those numbers are?2007:
Geel- 12, 12, 11, 8 = 43
Port- 4, 3, 3, 4 = 14
Geel- 17.38
Port- 58.33
2009:
Geel- 3, 5, 5, 7 = 20
StK- 5, 9, 6, 3 = 23
Geel- 29.50
StK- 35.67
2011:
Geel- 7, 7, 6, 9 = 29
Coll- 6, 6, 6, 3 = 21
Geel- 18.39
Coll- 27.67
It takes two to tango.
Um hodge and mitchell were at their peak in 2007-11. They are both retired whilst ablett and selwood still play. Ling tagged hodge out of almost every game. Mitchell played well against geelong though. Selwood and ablett both regularly dominated hawthorn.Hawthorn 2014, Hodge and Mitchell would make Ablett and Selwood cry
