Carlton in '96 went out in straight sets, but again the old crappy finals system had a big impact on that. Finishing 5th, Carlton played 4th placed West Coast in Perth, then 3rd placed Brisbane at the Gabba (Brisbane lost to 6th placed Essendon in week 1. under the current system Carlton would have smashed 8th placed Hawthorn, then lost to West Coast most likely)
