Penalty points a worry for Cats coach

CATS NEEDING CAUTION

James Podsiadly – 93.75 points (until Rd 16 next season)
James Kelly – 89.06 points (until Rd 6 next season)
Jimmy Bartel – 87.5 points (until Rd 16 next season)
Steve Johnson – 71.78 points (until Rd 15 next season), 30 per cent loading
Joel Corey – 60 points (until Rd 13 next season)
A number of Geelong players, very good players at that, are on the verge of suspension. One small minor incident could see them completely banned from finals. Does this play on the mind of Cats players when Fremantle's antagonists get in their ear?

I would imagine that the Cats players will focus on the job at hand, being serious campaigners for many years. However, in recent years they have fronted the tribunal more times than any other club. Does this factor into how players like Hayden Ballantyne and Ryan Crowley play? Should it?

i think it gives us an incentive to niggle them as much as possible. who knows, we could be doing ourselves a favour later down the track.

Agreed. If it means we can play Port Adelaide in a Grand Final I'm all for it. Assuming that the loss of these players causes them to lose to a rampaging Port who win the following week against Sydney in a repeat of earlier this year.

Just to jump in. There is no doubt what so ever that it has definitely played on the minds of the coaching group.

All of those players got done for bumps.

It has been trained out of them.
See if you can identify this on Saturday as they do it time, and time again.

Freo and Geelong player coming at each other with the ball between them.
The Geelong player will actually step away fractionally and let the Freo player collect the ball.
Then he will wait for the Freo player (still bending over) to get slightly past him and then he'll apply a tackle to the hips.

The one thing I dont like is that it usually allows the opponent to have his hands free.
But at least they have tried to remove the area of doubt. i.e. dont try to guess if you can beat to the opponent to the ball and mistime it and miss a week. Let them come through and nail them.

I actually think it might have helped the tackling of the entire team.

Just my thoughts. But keep an eye out.

I'd use it against them 100%. First thing I would do when I walked out on to the ground would be get into their ear about it.

If they're worried about suspension in the back of their mind, they might be just that little bit more likely to not go in as hard, or to pull out of a questionable contest, or react poorly in certain situation.

And yeah, It might help us out a couple of weeks later.

Play for keeps.

Kelly's was for a very crude (that's being nice) attack on Mzungu. He's one of our fairest, so he's a dirty mongrel in my book.
I think the Cat coaches will be highlighting the importance of his run and spread in their team meetings all week. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them makes the most of a chance to limit that run at some point.

Forgot about that

That's not really going the bump.

Imagine if Crowley (suspended once in his entire career) did that to one of theirs? The meltdown from those mental midgets at Kardinia would be obscene.

Or imagine if Kelly punched Mzungu in the guts off the ball ... oh wait that happened in the same game Ballantyne hit Chapman off the ball and they screamed bloody murder.

Is this why RTB is calling for better protection for Crowley?

Funny how cats fans think we're the dirty team when it's them who have the undisciplined players whom they're now specifically having to train it out of.
