We know that in the long term there are too many teams based in Victoria

Teams will be relocated interstate or merge as it is the only way that they will survive. This will be due to the corporate dollar and membership restrictions.

Looking at the crystal ball I would not be surprised if Geelong merged with the Bulldogs. This team would represent Victoria in the Western region and ensure survival of both teams in the long term

They could play their home games in Geelong and there blockbusters at the MCG. Will this occur down the track?

Maybe ten years ago, but if geelong follow the same path as we are now we are set.

Id be more worried about the demons, dogs, roos before geelong

No way in the world that Geelong need to merge.

We can slowly become a superpower. We just need to ensrue that our stadium is kept up to date wiht mroe capacity.

We have a huge region and market to oursleves, there is no need to merge with anyone.

I hate to see teams merge but if anyone has to merge surely the demons, roos, dogs and even Hawks will be up there well before Geelong. St Kilda arent too flash either compared to Geelong.

Maybe the Demons and Roos can merge and be called the Melbourne Kangaroos. The Western Bulldogs i reckon are a huge underachiever when it comes to fan base. They have the entire western suburbs to themselves. There membership base is gradually getting better thoguh.

In a nutshell i would never vote for a geelong merger

I like their mascot the Geelong Dogs has a nice ring to it. Mind you that's all I'd be prepared to embrace, guernsey colours stay intact.

It better bloody well not.

We're in a prime position to strengthen our place in the league. As a one-team town we have a considerable advantage - not to mention that we basically represent the entire western districts of Victoria.

Not gonna happen.

I wouldn't be averse to it if it was more of a takeover than a merger akin to what happened between Fitzroy and Brisbane basically just adopting their mascot and nothing more.

If geelong ever merge (mark my dads words)

They will become the Western Cats.
Yes because they want all the victorian based teams in melbourne.

Geelong is as safe as houses in terms of location. We have no competition in terms of geographic location.

This is possibly the most stupid thread ever

This was bandied around a few years ago when the Cats were really struggling financially, however I doubt now this would be the case with our exemplary financial leadership who have given us a launching pad for say the next 20 years or so.

Due to that I doubt we would lose the Geelong tag now, to become the Western Cats. That just wouldn't happen in my opinion.

I'd suggest if anything, the Bulldogs would just fold. Why join two teams that have no real proximity value, come on Western Melbourne doesn't stretch to Geelong.

If this were to happen, it would be the worst decision in football.
