Just like they do now to get a deliberate out of bounds call?
I am of the opinion that if a player escorts the ball out of bounds, with no attempt to keep it in play, it should just be a throw in.

Really sorry to read that. Had not heard that about Sarah. Strange thing is I was talking to her teammate who mentioned one of the girls had done her ACL. Did not think to ask her name.
This is from an article on 6 November (Monday), on 10 November (that Friday) she did her ACL:

Through my Dad’s side of the family, I’m a dual citizen now, so my Latvian passport’s going to be here in a month. That means I don’t have to play as an import in any of the European leagues, which makes me more attractive to recruiters over there.

I don't think she was looking at a AFLW career. It's a great article to read, and the fact it came out just days before her injury makes the extent of her injury even harder to comprehend (maybe not the right word).

If they did I don't recall it.
I am getting old and senile.
:p

A FREE kick will be awarded against the last player to touch the ball before it goes out of bounds in the opening round of the 2011 AFL pre-season NAB Cup.

The trial rule has been introduced to provide a point of difference when the six groups of three teams play shortened matches against each other.

But if the umpires are unable to determine who touched the ball last, or if it is spoiled or smothered over the line, the boundary umpire will throw the ball back into play.

All I remember is that those three team fixtures were really stupid.

The game on 26/5/18 has been announced as a curtain raiser to the AFL game vs Carlton, and the game against the NT Thunder will be the curtain raiser to the Melbourne-Fremantle game. Not only that, but the game vs Collingwood on 13/5/18 and the game against Casey on 21/7/18 will be part of a "triple header" with all 3 AFL, VFL and VFLW teams playing in the same area on the same day.

Shell are you full forward
She would probably be better than the full forward we had this season. Despite playing at full forward all season, Alisha Habib wasn't even our top goal scorer. That was Kate Darby who played the first half of the year in defence.

Congrats to Erin Hoare who has been named to make her AFLW debut for Melbourne against GWS at Casey Fields tomorrow. She'll be joining VFLW teammates Lily Mithen and Rachelle Cranston in the Demons side, while Madeline Boyd will be lining up for the Giants.

It’s nice to know that after the next 7 weeks we will be officially part of the AFLW, can’t wait to get down to GMHBA stadium next year and watch a game that the result has some meaning.
Be nice to know that the development we are doing through our VFLW side will benefit the club come next year instead of making the existing sides stronger

Player watch:

Lily Mithen - 6 kicks, 9 handballs, 2 tackles
Erin Hoare - 2 kicks, 5 handballs, 3 marks, 2 tackles, 22 hitouts.
Richelle Cranston - 8 kicks, 1 mark, 2 tackles, 3 goals (including the winning goal)
Madeline Boyd - 6 kicks, 1 handball, 5 marks, 1 tackle, 3 hitouts.

Will these girls form part of the Geelong team when we enter AFLW?

Depends how many points they get rated at come the end of the year.
Victorian AFLW clubs will need to give up between two and four players next year based on a points rating system as part of the AFL's plans to ensure North Melbourne and Geelong hit the ground running when they enter the competition in 2019.
The AFL has determined that the AFLW All-Australian committee will give each player at a Victorian club a points rating between 10 and 50, based on performance, but also taking into account injury, age and other relevant factors.
A window will open shortly after the end of the second AFLW season in which the Demons, Blues, Magpies and Dogs will need to give up players to their rivals. Existing clubs will give up between two and four players to a total worth of 100 points.

Will be interesting to see if they will. In my way of thinking we should have first dibs on Erin Hoare and Anna Teague who are both at Melbourne as they played last season with our VFLW side before they were rookie listed by Melbourne.

Mithen and Cranston are originals and Mithen in particular does heaps around the club, was RS nominated and keeps getting better and better. I expect Lily will stay at the Dees. Cranston will depend on this season but if today is anything to go by she's found her niche.

It's up to the existing side to select which players depart the club, so it'll be interesting to see who gets picked to go.

Being a Geelong girl who still lives and works in the area I expect her to be the marquee player we target and a likely first captain (obviously dependant on if she comes)

Do the clubs get the option of keeping players?
Thought all players get a point grading then it up to the expansion clubs if they want to spend the points available to them on those players

From how I read the rules, the league assigns the points values and then the existing club then chooses the players to get to 100 points surrendered. Otherwise there is no protection system for the existing sides.

I originally posted this in the Geelong V Melbourne Round 1 thread but it was really off topic to the thread and threatened to derail it. So I will post it here in the AFLW thread.

If they keep the prices lower than the regular AFL competition perhaps. My guess is a lot of people will be way too scared to criticise it in any way.
One of the mates posted a tweet saying that people should not be criticized for saying that they don't like AFLW.
I agree.
But to be honest, I don't mind it. I have come to terms with what it is.
I don't try and compare it to AFL as they are professional male players and women will never be able to compete with them due to physically stronger makeup of males.

But I think that the standard of AFLW will improve in the future. I also think that the AFL have got the timing right for the AFLW season in that it does not compete with the regular AFL season.

And I am at the point where I am dying to watch footy, any footy.

And now that I have said this, I may as well come out of the closet and admit that I have purchased a Geelong Cats Women’s Football Pioneer membership.

And my favorite player is Tayla Harris, but only because of her football talent. True story.
