Not sure I agree with O'Connor - he's no Hurn but I wouldn't say he's a poor kick.

Hes not a terrible kick but he is not super reliable..we need some better ball users back there..honestly id be tempted to play higgins at half back if only to help our ball use..clark might be the best fit in that role though.

Stewart Blicavs O'Connor
Atkins Henderson Henry
Duncan Dangerfield Menegola
Higgins Cameron Parfitt
Rohan Hawkins Miers
Stanley Selwood Guthrie
Kolodjashnij Bews Smith Clark

Tuohy
Dahlhaus
Constable
Narkle
Simpson
Guthrie
Evans
Fort
Jenkins
Ratugolea

Very rudimentary and hastily compiled 22 which could have numerous combinations subbed in and out... but damn there is still quite a bit of AFL capable talent on the sidelines. We have a deep list.

Sounds from knights comments that we want to play a 3rd kpf/2nd ruck not that i agree with that.

Agree on our depth though.

I'd take Menegola off the wing. Play him a High Half Forward, with short stints at centre bounces. He ain't quick enough on the wing, even though he can run all day, we will be better served with pace - Duncan, I Smith, Clark - that's all star wingers right there ;)

Menegola is the first picked on the wing for mine. He was arguably the best in that position in the entire league last season.

Is this your preferred best 22 or what you think the club will do?

If he plays many games like he did today I’d be putting Menegola at left right out. Seemed completely disinterested particularly in defense, he flat out jogged behind his man over and over again even when his opponent had the ball.

The new rules/governance encourages taking the game either via leg speed or high end kicking and decision making skills. In my view Tuohy and Mengola are players at tipping point. Both very good players. But the spread from clearances will be vital this year. As will turnovers, the speed and spread of opposition sides will catch out defenders moreso. Interesting choices will need to be made to balance our transition play. Speed vs safe? Sometimes you need to take risks to win. Clark is not perfect particularly in transition. Kicking, handballs not consistently on target. But he has serious wheels. We will need this asset this year. Lastly, in my view, we need a little bit of old school Malcom Blight thinking, and get the ball movement forward as quickly as possible at every opportunity.

I think we found a player in SDK..

Clark was great I feel he was playing Duncan's role.

Atkins was a surprise down back.

And lols each Guthrie, Bews,Blitz kicking goals .

Sdk got slaughtered in the ruck as i expected but around the ground his skills look really good...think he needs time but will be a player.

Atkins was surprisingly good as was Clark.

Menegola is vastly underrated on this board.

I feel Clark he best 22.

He's 22 man first one out if they swing changes .
First one in at the same time.

Agree, when I speak to people who support other teams, a lot of them always say how bloody good Menegola is for us, wish they had him.

Thats telling.

Hes on the fringe but we have to find a way to keep him in. Exactly what we need.

He is seriously good player who each year, just out of sheer perseverance, has improved. My question is where speed and spread will be critical this year (noting the rules focus) is where is his best position for the team? On ball clearance specialist? Half forward and wing? On the wing we lose a little leg speed.

In a practice game...mate we werent taking much seriously. He will kill it when the real stuff starts.
He is fine getting the ball and with ball in hand but he is a god awfully lazy player in defense. This is not a new thing and has been a major criticism I’ve had on him for years, he just doesn’t put effort into defensive pressure.

Menegola is one of our best 2 way runners thats why he plays wing to push back to cover our lack of legspeed in defence. Hes too selfish around goals but he is not defensively lazy he outworks 3/4 of our team. Hes also a very good player as last year showed he is the least of our problems.

how fan you not play a 3rd tall forward who can chop out in the ruck? Logic would say it’s a necessity. Stanley can’t ruck all day. Limited interchange means you can’t carry a second ruckman on the bench. Blicavs is a key defender. He won’t be able to leave his man for extended periods. So you need someone who can contribute in another position when not in the ruck. Backup ruckman capable are fort, esava or maybe Jenkins. All forwards. So realistically they play one of them as a third forward. OST flexible and mobile? Esava.
