Just watched the Darebin-Williamstown match on YouTube. The goal which ultimately won the game for Williamstown was from a free kick, but the umpiring decision which led to it was farcical. There was a clash of players in the forward pocket. The free was paid for front on contact, but a Williamstown player took advantage and kicked a point. The umpire decided to call it back, but instead of calling it back to where the infringement occurred which was about 30m on an angle, for some unknown reason they decided that the kick was to be taken 30m out directly in front.

I reckon three changes - Williams and Boyd dropped, and Purcell out with that knee. There will be a carryover player, too.

Back to back scores that better majority of our AFLW efforts

Wonder if there's some lessons to learn from what these gals are doing, and implementing similar ideas with our senior side

From the little I've been able to read, seems that Williams kicked a couple - good for her confidence

The VFLW Bendigo Bank Cats have won their first game of the season in a dominant display against Williamstown at Deakin University Elite Sports Precinct on Saturday afternoon.

Geelong kept the visitors scoreless for two quarters in the 7.10 (52) to 2.0 (12) victory.

Steph Williams got the Cats off to the perfect start with a goal early in the first quarter. The 2020 AFLW draftee was lively in the forward line, providing a handball assist to Jaime Woollett in the latter's 50th VFLW game shortly after to extend Geelong’s lead. Williamstown kicked its first goal late in the quarter, but it was the Cats who controlled much of the play to lead by eight points at the first break.

VFL Women’s Round Two

Geelong Cats 7.10 (52) def Williamstown 2.0 (12)

Goals: Williams (2), Clarke, Elsworthy, Fedele, Gunjaca, Woollett

Best: Gunjaca, Clarke, Pratt, Sheppard, Meissner, Smith

Injuries: Fuller (back)

Update on the Falcons gals - they had a bye this weekend, meaning we've slipped down to 2nd on the ladder with 3 wins from 3 starts, but with Oakleigh having a 1 point win on Friday night for their 4th win this season they've jumped to top of the ladder

Our next opponent will be the Sydney Swans Academy, match scheduled for 12pm on Saturday at Deakin. The Swans are yet to play a game, so not sure on the form line

The VFLW ladder is pretty interesting. After 2 rounds, there's only 2 undefeated sides (Port Melbourne and Collingwood) and two winless sides (Darebin and Carlton). The remaining eight sides have a 1-1 record. We're currently 3rd on percentage.

Are they trying to get all our home games out of the way at the start of the season or something

Seems that way. Noticed this on the K-Rock website...

GEELONG will have two more VFLW games at home before hitting the road for the first time in the 2021 season later this month.

AFL Victoria has released the fixture for rounds 3-6, with the Cats to host Southern Saints (March 13) and Port Melbourne (March 20) over the next two Saturdays.

It follows home matches against Collingwood and Williamstown to open the season.

Round 5 will see Andrew Bruce’s team travel to Whitten Oval for a meeting with the Western Bulldogs on March 27.

Following a break for Easter, Geelong makes the trek to Casey Fields for a clash with the Casey Demons.

This week’s match-up with the Saints is a double-header with the Geelong Falcons Girls, who play the Sydney Swans Academy at midday.

VFLW team for this weekend...

Williams & Boyd with another start, Gardiner returns this week after being the carry over emergency for the seniors last week, and Clarke is the main name I see missing which suggests a promotion

And congrats to Annie Lee and Renee Tierney who have been named to debut - a couple of Falcons gals

Don't know why they aren't live streaming our game tomorrow on YouTube instead of Port Melbourne vs Williamstown. Surely 3rd vs 6th on the ladder would've been a better spectacle than 1st vs 10th, but maybe I'm just biased.
