Barber averaging 3 goals a game at VFLW level (she kicked 3 against the Pies earlier in the year). Sneaky chance for the leading goalkicker?

More looking forward to her getting the extra development over the VFLW season. Her debut season in a largely dysfunctional team was fantastic, so it's gonna be awesome to see her come back for 2021/22 with even more experience.

Guessing it's going to be a run of road trips to end the season

Correct. We're away to Darebin this week, have the two home games as above, then we're on the road for the last 4 rounds.

Looks like they have a 24 hour delay in getting the VFLW scores updated on the VFL app as well. Noticed they were updating the Saturday games yesterday when checking our VFL scores, and yesterday's scores were updated when I checked the app about 20 minutes ago.

One good thing about the VFL app is we also get player stats for both VFL and VFLW games!

Some notable performances from the weekend:

- Laura Gardiner: 27 possessions, 11 tackles.
- Olivia Barber: 16 possessions, 5 marks, 9 hitouts and 3 goals.
- Sophie Van De Huevel: 22 possessions, 4 tackles.
- Rene Caris: 12 possessions, 20 hitouts.
- Georgie Rankin: 18 possessions, 7 tackles.

And from some of the VFLW listed girls:

- Tamara Smith: 14 possessions, 8 tackles.
- Paige Sheppard: 22 possessions, 7 tackles.
- Claudia Gunjaca: 12 possessions, 3 marks, 2 goals.

And since cats_09 is interested in her journey...

- Theresia Meissner: 8 possessions, 1 tackle.

Good to see the AFLW listed players with dominant performances, as that's surely what we'd be wanting to see

Curious if Gardiner was playing more as an inside mid or link up player as I noticed she had 20 handballs in her 27 disposals

Would be good to get some highlights videos of the matches so we can get an actual idea of how we played, at least more than what we get from the scores

Now that we've finally got some VFL coverage courtesy of Kayo, it'd be great to get something of the equivalent for the VFLW... but I'm guessing will be waiting a while. You'd think the club could organise a highlights video at least.

There are 2-3 VFLW games live streamed on YouTube each week. We were meant to be on one of them a few weeks ago but there was some kind of dispute with the streamers and Deakin Uni and it never eventuated. Hopefully with most of our remaining games being played away from home, we might get shown a few times before the end of the season.

Oh, that's cool - thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep an eye out for them.

Geelong 7.6.48 defeated North Melbourne 5.2.32

Geelong overcame North Melbourne and shored up its fifth win of the season to hold onto fourth spot on the ladder. The Cats never looked like relinquishing the lead during the encounter, holding the Roos scoreless in the first quarter and then outscoring them every term thereafter. Geelong had almost double the inside 50s of their opponents and used the ascendancy to take the win.

Olivia Barber played for the first time since round one and kicked three goals from 16 disposals in her return for the Cats. Geelong's young core of Laura Gardiner, Georgie Rankin, Sophie van de Heuvel and Tamara Smith all played a role in the win. Laura Gardiner was the best of the bunch with her 27 disposals and 11 tackles. Consistent performers Claudia Gunjaca and Paige Sheppard also contributed to the Cats win.

After a slow start for North, forward Brooke Brown was able to finish with three goals from 17 disposals. Meagan Kiely and Sarah Skinner did their best for the Roos, finishing with 23 and 20 disposals respectively.

The VFLW Bendigo Bank Cats will travel to Bill Lawry Oval, Northcote to face the Darebin Falcons at 12pm on Saturday afternoon.

The Cats will be looking to make it four wins in a row and to solidify their position at the top end of the table, currently sitting in fourth position on the ladder.

Darebin will be hungry for a victory, with their only win so far coming in Round 6 against North Melbourne.

Playing a consistent brand of football will be a focus for Geelong as the competition heads into the second half of the season.

“Our good is very good but we need to be more consistent for longer periods, but the pleasing thing is there is plenty of room left for growth,” VFLW Coach Andrew Bruce said after last week’s game.

Updates will be available on the Catswomens Twitter and Instagram pages.

Interesting that our full-forward through the first part of the season when it was running concurrently with the AFLW has been named on the half back flank this week.

Guess that's what happens when a few AFLW listed forwards are filtered back into the VFLW side.

Finally updated the app, and apparently our goalkickers were actually:

Barber 3, Gardiner 2, Boyd, Clarke, Johnson, Moloney, Van de Heuvel and Woollett.

Barber's up to equal 3rd in the goalkicking on 9, 4 behind the leader despite having played 5 less games!

that's interesting because multiple sources have said Gardiner kicked 3 - so someone in the VFL has given a goal to Woollett while everyone else has credited Gardiner with that goal...

Olivia Barber is going to be a genuine star of the AFLW in years to come. Absolute priority signing for us if we want to kickstart a better future for our AFLW Cats.

Best performances stats wise.

AFLW listed players:

- Sophie van de Huevel: 25 possessions, 9 tackles, 1 goal.
- Laura Gardiner: 24 possessions, 10 tackles, 2 goals.
- Darcy Moloney: 22 possessions, 7 tackles, 1 goal.
- Georgie Rankin: 18 possessions, 5 marks, 2 tackles, 0.2 on the scoreboard.
- Georgia Clarke: 17 possessions, 4 tackles, 1.2 on the scoreboard.
- Olivia Barber: 15 possessions, 6 marks, 4 tackles, 3 hitouts, 3.1 on the scoreboard.

VFLW listed players

- Tamara Smith: 20 possessions, 9 tackles.
- Paige Sheppard: 18 possessions, 3 tackles.
- Claudia Gunjaca: 13 possessions, 4 tackles.
- Olivia Fuller: 11 possessions, 2 tackles, 23 hitouts.

Amazingly, we had nearly 100 more possessions than our opponents, yet won the tackle count as well.

The girls have moved up to 3rd on the ladder and currently have the 2nd best percentage, only behind the undefeated Collingwood.
