Thats a pretty good point, a lot of the guys we signed (Gardiner, DJ, Rooke, King) are nowhere near as important as the likes of Bartel Chappy Corey and Dog. I hope we dont lose one of them as a result of being too keen to sign all the others nice and early.
I think Coreys been our best player this year
Bartels the most likely 300 game midfielder that we have
Chapman is a less reocgnised Gaz jr
And Steve Johnson is i feel the most talented player on our list.

Worst Case Scenario

One of the guns doesn’t sign, we lose him to somebody else in the PS draft for zilch.

I don’t like the current system
If the player wants to go to Carlton, a bottom four team going backwards.

Collingwood would be tempting if they could nab a midfielder or two (reasonable defence, above average forward line, poo midfield) but wont finish in the bottom two which makes it tough to use the ps draft as a bargaining chip.

Depth becomes irrelevant when you lose good players. Good players win games, not having an extra 5-6 in the VFL who could possibly step up, Sunday showed that.
Rooke, DJ, Gardiner haven't played much VFL this year....They are players in the 15-25ish bracket. If you lose them you end up like St Kilda, recruiting players like McGough, Fiora, Mullins to fill gaps and we don't have the top end class of the Saints to pull it off.

the problem for you will be that McGuire at Collingwood and Carlton will offer ********ed up money to get a name. I think McGuire and Collingwood would offer Johnson over 400 a year to move. Personally I think he is worth 300 tops...more in the 250-280 category but if you want a player to move you have to pay a premium!
