I must say, of all the grand finals we've won, I much prefer the ones that are over by half time 🤣
Both 2007 and 2022, being like 10 mins into the 3rd quarter and KNOWING you are going to win the flag. Not believing, not hoping, but knowing beyond all doubt.

Absolute party time for almost an entire half of footy.

No better feeling.

2007 hell I never relaxed until time on in the last.

There's a passage in the first quarter where Josh Hunt attacks a ball hard that was going out of bounds, kicks inboard to a contest where Ottens provides a contest and it spills over the back to a wide open Chapman which chip kicks inside 50 to a wide open SJ, who walks in a simple goal.
At that point I looked to my old man and said "we've got this, game over".
He DID NOT approve!
But to me, at that point, Cats were playing the way they had been that got them to the GF, and you could tell that unlike the week before, the situation hadn't gotten to them, they were playing freely and Cats way and it was just a matter of time.
Although I am an eternal optimist.

Watching it live? For sure, I love me a flogging. Watching the replays for years after the fact? Gimme 2009, then 2011 then 2007 then 2022.

2009 still is a dour, rain-sodden, brutal watch. Coldest Grand Final on record (11 degrees!)

09 was my fav. Both the game and the celebrations into the next morning

I celebrated too hard in 2022 and managed to crawl out of a night club at about 6 or 7 am on the Sunday morning.

I had planned to go to the Sunday celebrations at K'Park but was too trashed to get there. I crawled out of bed about 6pm on Sunday night. I am far too old to be doing that now.

I think I would be on life support if I tried that these days

At halftime of 22 I was hopeful, but also aware that Sydney had been the second best team all season and that if they kicked the first 2 or 3 goals of the third, it could give them some momentum

When Isaac Smith kicked our third of the quarter, which hadn't really seemed to be going for too long at that time, that's when I knew it was ours and there was no coming back from Sydney - we never took our foot off their throats and it was beautiful to watch

You're kidding me.
I was at a party with a bunch of Collingwood people I didn't know.

There were no seats. So at half time I was on my haunches having a rest.

My mate walked out and saw me and said 'relax mate, it's over'.
I said I know, I'm just tired, it was over at 1/4 time.

I think that I would be on a slab and wearing a shroud if I tried that these days.
