In the dying seconds of Q1, Dangerfield kicked wildly, completely missing Menzel + ball went OOB on the full.

This moment here nearly made me blow my stack - dying seconds where we desperately need a forward 50 mark, Dangerfield tries to be way too cute, jinks onto his left foot and kicks it OOBOTF.

Really needs to get back to doing the basic things bloody well, which to be fair he did in the 2nd half.

You have been a very busy girl. :thumbsu: Well done worth another :thumbsu::thumbsu:

On the ruck issue ..I think a threshold has been reached ..why play a big guy when he will probably get beaten but whats worse probably not be able to half the contest. Blake copped it on here ...but he was good at nullifying. Stanley at times is like running with a pebble in you shoe.. just when you have gotten comfortable .. arhhhhhh moment occurs. And Smith lacks influence and consistency. Off a break , he will probably be back this week.

To me Eagles shut down Menzel. We struggled to find a legit alternative till our midfield upped its workrate. Menzels creativity can manufacture but if our midfield works then we have enough talent to kick goals . The Melb game and the third quarter here shows we have raised our Max this year but we seem to have a lowered fitness. When the midfield really gets cold ..our backline is thin and can only handle so much. yet I though Kolo did well mostlly. Bews has really cemented his spot. I think ZG is a bit under stress and we have now added Henry. Stewart is Moneyball player ... we really are running on D Lite.

Im not sure how fit Danger is he lack his sot of explosive verve..and Hawkins has been like a man in a dark room. Then he scored and the light went on. Im just not sure how many guys we have that are at their best. poor hand skills.Poor disposal. Fumbles under pressure.

Thank you TC - I’m touched by all the kind responses + the support is encouraging.

Ruck or no Ruck, Natanui was going to be hard to beat + Sav made a good effort, which Natanui acknowledged. But, Natanui was also deadly all over the ground! I’m still reeling from his massive crushing tackle on Puff-feet! Thought he’d killed him!

Agree, WCE totally nullified Menzel. Was it McGovern who played on him all game? Menzel did manage to take a few good marks. Mostly, our Midfield struggled to get the ball to our Forwards, when they did, Tomahawk + Menzel were double or even triple scragged. Needed small Forwards to crumb.

+ that’s the other thing you’ve identified, as many have - Midfield work rate. Ablett was consistent. Dangerfield was scrappy. Selwood was heavily tagged. Menegola worked hard. No Duncan meant a missing link in our chain. Parfitt stood up, especially when Ablett was injured + he was moved onto the ball. Who’ve I missed? Scooter, not quite fit? It’s just they didn’t work cohesively.

Also, that chipping the ball backward, from side to side because the Backs couldn’t find a target! Or because there was no one home in our I50 to kick goals! I remember years ago when Cuthrie would remain in the goal square, in case we moved quickly Forward. Yes! Cuthrie!

Bews is brilliant! Showed real grunt + flair! Zuthrie is great, footy nous + composure, but I take your point. Second year blues?

Thought our Backline held the team together for the most part, when the Mids were shaky. That Bews’ goal!

I’ve posted this previously, as soon as the Club + players begin bandying around ‘Best preseason EVER’, I begin to worry. I think there are other players struggling. Will we see our brilliant Q4 finishes?

I was screaming at him! You’re so right in saying he “tries to be way too cute”, still he persists in doing it! Also his kicks straight to opposition players! Needs to practise his goal kicking too. I’ve fallen out of love.

Thank goodness he did come good in second half, we desperately needed him. Then you remember his mega game against Hawks + hope like hell he can pull that rabbit out of his hat again.

Those LED panels are sharp as ****.
Ive cut many a finger installing them. They do get blunter over time BUT that's not a safe plan. There is a thin diffusion you can put over the top of it that will blur it up a little and the protection is minimal - but it is better.

I remember the OUTCRY when Stadium Aust had the bolt that Roughy? got scratched on - but not much being said about this.

Not shocked really.

Go Catters

My problem with him is the inconsistency. In one play he can blast out of the midfield like he is possessed and then just kick mindlessly into somewhere, more often than not missing everyone and everything. he can stand in the goal square and kick 4 then next week do nothing. Not sure that he is a team player. I still believe that in his prime Ablett jnr was far better player

Same here. And an infinitely more consistent and better kick.

I'm 2-6 weeks
Daz is 2-6 weeks
Let's just make you 2-6 weeks too.
Soz bout the knee BTW. Hope all is good.
You’re channeling Neil Balme, aren’t you?

I’ll be back running in three weeks + training with the main group in about five weeks, taking that new drug the NFL players take, like Andrew Walker lol

Rehab was fun this morning with Gaz, Cockatoo, Cuthrie, Harry + Hendo

In about 3 weeks you'll be a test, then back to 2-6 weeks.
Just stay off the peptides! Don't know what's in em.

It was Brad Sheppard who beat Menzel in a few 1 on 1s, a couple of them probably illegally, but blanketed him well.
Thanks Doris. I only remember seeing McGovern position himself, miraculously, in front of one contest. Only knew it was McGovern because commentator said his name. Sheppard was deadly on Menzel, but was happy to see Menzel take a good strong mark at one point. Also, Menzel was double scragged at times, keeping him quiet also affected us.

OK. But then he took some good marks, kicked well to a target, + yes he made mistakes, but not nearly in the range of Dangerfield's shockers. But Dangerfield is untouchable, so angst is spewed at a kid like Parsons. Parsons had one more mark than Danger. His DE% 83.3. Four I50s. I know it's wrong to compare Parsons to Danger. Give the kid a break, yes he made some mistakes, but who didn't? He did stand up at times + I find it annoying that people always remember the one bad thing, but forget 10 good things.

Points well made Kitty but I think he's due for a spell in the VFL to hone his craft a little more and to get a dose of much needed confidence
He was totally missing in action in the first half
I think Murdoch or Cunico would be suitable replacements.
I rate Parsons as a young talent and reckon he'll come back strongly after he dominates the VFL for a few weeks

Probably an excellent idea F2G. I haven't really taken much notice of Parsons, so I must bow to those who know him. I think my point was that I felt a bit sorry for him, considering the overall poor performance of the team in the first half.

When we lost Cuthrie, Cockatoo + Ablett, the some of the kids went to play onto the ball, how did you think their change of position went?

Absolutely turned the tide of the game. Umpires influenced by the crowd noise.

00VicWard001 - Richardson was spot on with his "noise of affirmation" remark. Sadly it's even louder at the new stadium
It's a particular and widespread feature of Eagles supporters that they yell BALL whenever an opposition player is tackled - they are blissfully ignorant of prior opportunity.
Umpires are human and will be influenced at times , particularly when it's a tight game and the fans are at their loudest.
The chorus of "ball" and "yeah" when the free is paid is almost as loud as the roar when they goal.
It's a shitful experience for an opposition supporter to be honest

Forgot to reply to this ATSAM. I think it would be hard to find a better player than GAJ. Was delighted in GAJ's game on Sunday, the movement through traffic, strength to avoid tackles, lovely kick.

Kelly and Parfitt were very good in the second half whilst Menegola and Sav were terrific all game.
Henry settled in and did some good things whilst I think Zuthrie has had his confidence dented from Roughy last week. Gregson needs a spell just like Parsons.
Fogarty was very good and could have almost iced the game had he converted that running snap across his body - shows promise.
Cocky looked imposing before the injury and will be a huge loss IMO

We've got a tough few weeks ahead but with 3 home games and a trip to Adelaide before the Pies game you would think we'd be 3 or maybe 4 wins from 7 - not the end of the world

They blew their wad in the 3rd quarter. I feared that they would fall in a heap after the 3rd term comeback.
It can often happen that teams that give everything to get back into a game end up having nothing left for the final term.

But what about Geelong being the Kings of Q4 wins?

So imagine how the game might have played out if Nicnat had to at least halve the ruck contests in the last quarter.

Worst of all, imagine the result if WCE had kicked straight!

Also, imagine the result if we'd played decent footy in the first half, instead of having to play catchup + suffer from injuries. Those slow starts really annoy me.

Then if he outmarks Zac Guthrie to kick the winning goal go "Oh well, none of our backs were good enough to stop him anyway. He had no influence "
In a nutshell .....yep. That's the logic

Kolo has looked really great at times. His ball use has gone up several notches.
But twice in 2 weeks he's just stayed down and let his direct opponent mark uncontested.
Needs to fix this.
I thought Kolo was great at times, what about when he out marked Darling a few times today? He's still young + has his best years to come.

One item which has been lost in all the wash - did Dwayne really utter the sentence "Does Geelong have a safeword?"
An insight into the life of Dwayne we didn't need.
